Hello Browncoats!
The SoCal Browncoats are proud to announce our 2nd Anniversary Serenity Release Weekend Shindig. The first half is our Firefly/Serenity themed Los Angeles Photo Scavenger Hunt on Sept 29th. The second half is a party at Sebastian’s Restaurant on Sept. 30th.
For more details on the Hollywood Photo Scavenger Hunt, please join our Yahoo group
http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/SoCalBrowncoats/
The basic info and rules are:
Starting Point – The Saddle Ranch Restaurant, Universal City Walk under the Stagecoach.
Starting Time – 10:30 AM for crew setup, rules and short trivia contest.
11:00 AM Race Starts
End Time - 4:00 PM
Finish Line - The Mann’s Chinese 6 Theater Marquee on the 3rd Floor inside the Hollywood & Highland complex.
What you need - $5 per person for the Metro Day Pass
1 Digital Camera Per Crew
Comfortable Walking Shoes
At least one Cell Phone per crew
Don’t worry if you don’t have a crew yet, we’ll be forming crews once we’re all gathered at the starting point. All crews will need a team name.
Crews will travel on foot and Public Transportation only - no cars, bikes, mules or taxis allowed. Wear comfortable footwear for your desired speed. You'll probably be out in
the world for a few hours.
Crews might hit a spot where some extra guidance would be nice. Feel free to send a wave (call) to anyone to play the role of Mr. Universe, by looking up stuff on the cortex (internet). You can also bring wifi computers, PDAs, phone books, maps, Metro schedules, etc.
Once a crew solves a clue they must navigate to that location and take a photo of ALL of them there. Photos on the camera must be in order with the checkpoints on the clue sheet, starting with your starting location. Your entire team must be in the photo and your target/checkpoint must be clearly visible. You will usually be within touching distance to get a good picture, but the only requirement is the checkpoint is clear in the photo. It is OK to get a photo from a short distance, such as across a street. Any photos from further away will not count. Your crew must either be good at the “Nathan self photo” kind of shot, or ask someone else to take the photo.
You will get points for each checkpoint or bonus checkpoint.
Once you've reached all the checkpoints, return to the finish line and get your photos validated by James & Lynn. The winning crew will be the one that gets the most points, and arrives before the end of the race.
If you get stuck at any point, you can call Haven (James & Lynn) for help. If you ask for help finding a checkpoint, you will have 5 points deducted from your crew’s total. Haven will only be able to answer Yes and No questions. You can ask as many questions as you wish, but only for help on 1 checkpoint per call.
Points – Checkpoint 10 Points
Bonus 1 Point
Haven Call -5 Points
You main goal is to get as many points as possible and make it to the finish line by 4:00 PM. The winning crew will be the crew that has the most points and arrived in time. In case of a tie, the crew who arrived first will win.
The Bonus Checkpoints – Each crew will get the list of bonus checkpoints at the start of the hunt. The requirement for these is different. You will only need 1 crew member in each bonus photo. But you must not have the same crew member in subsequent photos. You can have a bonus photo at any place in your sequence of main checkpoints.
Crews can't physically or verbally intimidate other teams with pushing, harassing, stealing their camera, etc. But you can help other teams if you choose.
For more info or to join the race, head on over to our web site, yahoo group or send us an email at socalbrowncoats at yahoo.com

Only a couple days until the hunt! If you can make it we hope to see you there. This is going to be a great day seeing the sites in Hollywood/LA in a whole new way.
Just be at the Saddle Ranch at 10:30 AM and we'll start setting up teams.

But that's good then isn't it? The race is on Saturday. Unless you meant you work on Saturday, then yes, it does suck.

Each of the missions has all the same checkpoints, just in a different order. I'll post when I add the hand drawn "map of the 'verse" that Lynn did to go along with the clues.
You can see the test photos including the disappearing "Simon's Motors" here
