I just noticed that the disused quarry works where Claire jumps to video her healing abilities looks a lot like the same place which was Haven in Serenity. Am I right?

I don't know for sure, but it is definitely possible. Either Joss or Nathan mentioned in the new BDCE commentary that it has been used for a lot of different shoots over the years.

It also looked to me that the small canyon in the Serenity pilot (Whitefall/Patience location) was the same spot that the 4077th Mash unit chose to set up.

I guess there are some locations in Southern California that are easier to get to and are actually set up for TV/movie production.
