Well, leastways that's what I heard from my Ma, back on Shadow, where I'm from.
My question for the forum is how to get the plastic smell out of a new water-jug without wrecking a lot of water. Glass jugs are sorta heavy and like to break, so I sprung for an 11L plastic job, recycle code 3, currently sitting empty and open (except for a bug-screen on top)in the sun on my side steps in the hope that outgassing of the plasticizers will be hastened some by the heat.
I really don't want to go back to cured camel-bags...

I alway heard that either white/clear vinegar or a baking soda solution would work, but not together or you'll be in for a shock bump.
Edit: Mrs CC suggests a lemon jucie solution. One part juice to 10 parts water and leave overnight.

Might try the baking soda dry first (it's great
at taking up refrigerator funkies, just sitting around in an open container).
Have had the jug in the sun, to let heat build up and speed the outgassing.
Should ask Mal & crew to take it into space and tether it to the ship, outside.
Lost the Captain's cell number, and also the number to the pay-phone in the galley. Drat.

Yeah, I think it might be time to put this one to rest. As much as I love the Bun' the idea of her with razor sharp, shark like, pointy teeth scares the bujeezuz out of me.
