There have been widespread reports of both brick-and-mortar and online vendors who quickly went out of stock on the BDCE. This clearly indicates that we exceeded Universal's expectations, which is a SHINY thing!
Studios LOVE restock orders for recently-released DVDs. It means that they have a moving property on their hands. Let's hope that this will translate into more Serenity, at the very least!

it may be some indication to note that
internationally - the shipping of Those Left Behind has been held up...
because of the larger than expected number sold in the us with the dvd.

Regardless of expectations, that's another $300,000 or so (I'm guessing) in Universal's piggy bank as a result of the franchise.

$580,000

88 weeks since the original DVD was released.
They should differentiate the two versions.
Haken should put a separate Amazon sales tracker link on the main page for the CE.

I went to the local Target, Circuit City and Bestbuy and none of them had Serenity CE. Not sure if they had already sold out, or if they hadn't received them or even will carry them.
So I just ended up ordering from Amazon...

I was out today shopping for 3 more Firefly DVD sets and my 8th BDCE for my local group's "Firefly for Firefighters" drive,
http://forums.scifi.com/index.php?showtopic=2285065
and had abysmal luck. I went to the Costco which had had Firefly a couple weeks ago at $16.99US; completely out, and, no BDCE in sight. I went to Target, which had reliably stocked Firefly for $19.99US; no BDCE, but had three series DVD sets in stock, at $24.99US! I am a big flan, but, I have a hard time choking down a 25% price hike on this product. I went to BJ's, found the BDCE at $18.99US, thank you very much! but, no Firefly.
Went to Best Buy, which had the original Serenity DVD at $14.99US (which, aside from the fact that I had already scored the one BDCE I needed this trip, the point was to boost sales figures of the BDCE!), no Firefly, and, the BDCE that they did have was HD DVD. Humph!
Went to the other Target in town, same price as the first one. Called Rhiotre to have her Amazon.com me some Firefly series DVD sets; she informed me that I could get them at around $21.00US... Used (but like new). New, they would be... $29.00US.
Folks, this is a very odd trend. Is the price of the Firefly series DVD set actually going UP in response to our demand, or, is the supply dropping, with no replenishment? It's gonna be gorram difficult to get it when WalMart and Kmart refuse to carry it, at all, and, the other places don't stock it except at ridiculous prices. Sales figures will be hurt by the fact that there's little to buy.
Any thoughts, observations, or, incitements to panic?

I do not know about others, but Amazon has raised the price from $18 to $20 (before I got mine too...oh well, I guess Universal's just getting more of my money).

The-numbers site should be updating soon.

Yeah, week 2 will tell the tale. Considering how many places where CE sold out, that should show up in week 2, as strong sales. Then again, did Universal seriously underestimate the demand? If so, what does that say about what kind of feedback Universal needs before they green light the sequel.
