I'm currently working on a simple world builder for Firefly Universe that I hope will eventually lead to it becoming some sort of online RPG for this site (or at least a tool for running RPG on this site).

Phase I is the creation of locations within the Firefly Universe. Each location has a name, a type, a description, and 4 possible connections to other locations. I’m thinking that the core locations—the ones that have appeared on the series and are considered canons—will serve as anchors for all other locations connected to it.

For example, while you can’t create Persephone (a civilized planet with a slum population), you can certainly create everything else on this planet including one of these slums, structures within the slums, or rooms within the structurs.

Since this is one of those build as we go projects, we’ll just start small and see where we go from there. If you have any comments or suggestions, please feel free to voice them on this thread and I’ll try to brainstorm some answers that I hope will become reality.

I should have something ready for you all to start adding locations either by tomorrow or early next week.

The program "Fractal Terrains" by Profantasy Software is ideal for the creation of lots of habitable (or inhabitable worlds). The one catch (for some) is that is is not Macintosh-friendly.

That sounds really ambitious, Haken. I don't know when you find the time to do all this.

Here are a couple of interesting sites that I don't know if you've seen yet. They may contain useful information.

Talk to the people at Cantr II ( www.cantr.net), Haken. I'm sure you can make an inquiry at the Official Forum at www.cantr.net/forum. I'm sure they would love to help you. Cantr II is the only game of its kind and it would be nice to have another one like it, especially if it is Firefly related.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

As part of my Firefly mod for EV: Nova, I've been assembling a large number of systems and planets to use as my universe. Many of them were thought up by a few people at TrekBBS; a few came from people here (see my other thread, around here somewhere). I've got 116 stellar objects so far, most of them inhabited worlds.

When that universe is completed, I'll do a limited release of it to those who helped create it. If you're one of those, then you're welcome to borrow any world ideas you like from it at that time. :)

When you release this could you provide documentation on the file format, etc you are using?

If you're referring to me (its not clear), it'll be in standard EVN format. That means .rez on Windows; file resources on Macs.

There are Mac programs to extract dësc resources to text files.

Sorry, my request was to Haken.

It's nice that stuff like this is happening though. This is all a great lead up to some sort of online game. Just a few more parts
