Another tattoo question

I figure this has been asked before, but I'm honestly too lazy to delve into the depths of the archives to find this answer. If it's there.
So, I want to get Serenity's symbol tattoo(ed?) on my arm. Now, the way it appears is one character, then under that, I'm never sure if that's two characters or just one really fat one.
Can anyone clear this up for me?
Because I want to get it on the side of my wrist, and if it's three symbols, I think it would look better if they were all straight down. But, if the placement of the characters matters to the meaning, I don't want to switch them up and have the tattoo mean something completely different.
Sorry, I ramble. Any info would be appreciated.

There are two character in the symbol for Serenity. The second one just looks like two littler ones put together.
And as far as I'm aware, the script can be written either vertically or horizontally, and I've seen both done. But I think it's traditionally done vertically, with the simple character directly above the other.

Every time someone thinks about getting a tattoo, I think of the Red vs Blue public service announcement about them.

Uh...morning, all. I hate to flat-out expose my ignorance about anything...but since it crosses my mind about 4 times a year to get a tattoo (and one of these days I will surely finally do it), what is the basic gist of this RvB PSA? Thanks
That tattoo was like that when we got here!

Speaking of ignorance...
Got your message, FlatTop (thanks) - clicked the link indicated to respond...wound up on your (so to speak) FFF page...and at that point intuition failed me utterly (don't feel you need to sort that out for me - I'll figure it out eventually).
Re the tats...that's a sound argument - and one I've heard various times over the years - but since I've been wanting to embroider myself with a few particular images (Reddy Killowatt, J.R. "Bob" Dobbs, the old multi-colored Apple apple) for 10 years or more at this point, I feel I'm on pretty sure ground...
"10 years or more"...yessir - nobody drags his ink-wantin' feet quite like WASHnwear...
He was exactly like that when we got here!

Thank you so much. This helps a lot.

No problemo. I know the feeling of not wanting to screw up a tat. Latin is a bitch of a language to translate correctly. So many interpretations.
Good luck when you get it! It does hurt, I won't lie, but it only as much as I expected, and not as much as I feared.

Oh I know full well it'll hurt. I've got three already. I even know how very much it's going to hurt on the wrist, especially. But I've found them to be addictive, and I have numerous fandoms that need to be venerated.
I imagine Latin would be difficult, but that's a good idea. I've been trying to figure a language for my future tats that aren't symbols. English is just so...cliche
