Welcome Home, maekchu. You're #27702 aboard this shiny ship and we're right glad to see you coming up the ramp.

There is no "behind the curve." There is perhaps
"didn't board on the first orbit" but that's no big deal. Have a mug of this, the finest of Mudder's Milk, and a basket of these gigantic ripe strawberries, obtained by yours truly at great risk to life and limb (others', not mine).

In a little bit we'll go on up to the galley to question the buffet and then there'll be some dancing or hoop-ball, or the Tall Card high-roller tournament, whichever you prefer.

Please do not step on ShipsCat or into her dish.

Congrats on spreading the Firefly love in a new area!

Hi there!

I was stationed in Korea when I bought the DVD set. I had previously discovered Firefly in Sept of 2002 when it premiered. Thought I'd never see it again, but there it was on the shelf at the BX in Osan. Spent literally every cent to my name at the time to get it, and never regretted one penny.

I also discovered this website while I was there, and while the face of things have changed since then, signing on to FFF has also been something else that I never regretted.

Welcome. You're in good company!

Kaylee: "What's so damn important about being proper? It don't mean nothing out here in the black."
Simon: "It means more out here. It's all I have..."

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I'm doing what I can to spread the word about this show in the English speaking community. I wish I could get my hands on a copy of the series with Korean subtitles.

Does anyone know if there is a Region 3 DVD set available? I've been to several DVD shops here in Taagu but can't find any? Didn't see any on Ebay either.

Thanks again folks. I'm happy I found this shiny ship. :)

Ooh new people with shiny stories

Welcome and good luck on the conversions to the 'verse...I'm not too certain where you would be able to obtain a copy in region 3...have you contacted Universal at all they might be able to steer you in the right direction.

Welcome, ever so welcome! I'm in Korea, too, and have been watching the boards for signs of activity over here! Yours is the first I've seen! Daegu, huh? I'm near Nonsan myself.

As for the series, I have not been able to find it in a Region 3 version here or online. I've been looking for months with no success, even looked while on my trip to Malaysia last summer. The Region 2 version is available in Japan, but without Japanese subtitles. Go figure. I suspect that a general knowledge of Chinese here in conjunction with censorship may have blocked its market here. You can get the Region 3 Serenity movie from this site:

It's a seller in Thailand, and their dvd has subtitles in Thai and Chinese. It also has a censorship label but, ironically, I haven't watched it myself as I have Region 1 on my laptop and brought my own copies with me - of course! I've picked up a copy anyway to put in the university library here in an effort to create interest among Koreans, if possible. There is a big market for scifi and horror here, so I think it has strong potential. By the way, if you have more luck than I've had in the search for Region 3 FF, please let me know. I am more than ready to help work on converting the English-speaking community here!

Hi Narien,

I'm happy to know that there is at least one other Browncoat here in Korea. I need all the help I can get to convert the masses. ha ha.

I've been surprised by the limited (I.E. zero) exposure of Firefly in Korea. I think it has less to do with censorship and more to do with Fox never having really supported or marketed the show properly. Stargate and Stargate-Atlantis seem to be on here all the time and I've also seen Farscape, Children of Dune, Heroes, the various Star Treks and now Blade the Series all on TV here so there is definitely a market for the genre in this country. The slang and conversational nuances of Firefly may not translate so easily but the show is so well done that I'm sure it would be popular here if a decent (any) effort were made.

I hope that some of your students will have an interest with the English-only copy you provided them. Who knows, that could be the first step in getting Firefly some exposure here and into the mainstream. I haven't given up finding a Hangul subtitled copy yet. I'll be checking out the Seoul electronics market soon as they have everything under the (Blue) sun there. If there is a copy of Firefly anywhere in Korea, it will be there.

Anyway....nice to meet you. If you're ever in Daegu, drop me a line and the first Mudder's Milk is on me. Cheers.

You're right about the scifi on TV here; there's plenty out there and lots of horror as well, so we can't blame the Reavers. Plenty of F*x reality crap TV, too, so why not firefly?! Let me know if you have any luck with the electronics market in Seoul. I really would like to get firefly into the library here, preferably with Korean subtitles.

If you're going to be in Daejon on a weekend, let me know and the mudder's milk (makkoli?) is on me!
