i have a vague idea for exploring some background on Inara by focusing on the progress of one of her 'girls' in training (
if i were josh [ha!]this would be a one shot comic)
- however the devil is in the detail.

I would imagine the initial training (starting around age twelve) would focus on developing the basic traits necessary to be a Companion. Judging from what we've seen of Inara and Nandi, they'd include physical grace, intelligence, discipline, and empathy. Add to that the ability to understand and participate in all kinds of social interactions, and also remain calm and centered.
I'd guess beginning courses in dance, calligraphy (which we see Inara practicing), history, languages, literature, as well as gaining knowledges of as many cultures and customs as possible. Also training in how to read people and situations quickyl and accurately.

I have an opening - a plot - an now i know it can all fit! plus you've given me ways to fill the thing out - new ideas for potential incidents, scenes, memories etc.
ps - my bad! did i really say one shot - it will probably be four. but i may keep it on my blog instead where i normally just put teasers... hmm pondering.
