Quote:They WERE following their plan, but the shift in tone, and loss of Lydecker, was way too severe for many. Me included. I'm glad I gave it a second chance on DVD. The third-to-last and last eps of season two were awesome.

I'm partly typing out of my butt here, given that I'm not even half-way through the second season. That's just what it seems like so far.

I have been strolling through the DVD set of Dark Angel over the past couple of weeks. I absolutely loved the first season. The second season is where I have some major problems.

The first season was golden. The second sucked so bad, I gave up on it. I’ve still not watched the whole second season, but I did watch the finale, which was uncharacteristically good.

It seems like they were hell-bent on hijacking the series by changing the tone of the writing, and introducing new characters that were pretty foreign to the idea of the show.
Quote:Yeah I remember those days. I used to be a pretty devoted Dark Angel fan. I was a regular member of the forum on darkangeltv.com from the pilot and one of the funders for both the first and second fan promotion projects. I would probably still be on that forum, but the forum took a huge dive following the cancellation and died. It became a troll’s haven. But I remember the night that we were all posting and waiting for our informants to pass on the message of cancellation. There was a lot of confusion, because the first information we got suggested that Fox had greenlit a Season three, but then we got the final word that it had been cancelled. And Yes, Firefly was initially implicated in this decision. There was a lot of anti-Fireflyism being thrown around in those days.

I won't go into it any more, yet, but am curious about anyone else's views of the show. I also find it a little funny Dark Angel fans that post on imdb partly blame Firefly for Dark Angel getting the axe.

That's a shame- great ep.
Harbor Lights was good...
Berrisford Agenda, Some Assembly Required...
I gave up on it the ep that Joshua got fleas, and only saw the whole season when I bought the DVD set.
It's WAAAY better that way.
First season is still some of the best TV ever made, though.

I loved Dark Angel, the first season was a lot more fun. I liked the fact that it was focused on Max and her sibs (I love Zack) I liked the second season but I prefer Lydecker as the bad guy

Ok. I love season one of DA and I like season two. I don't think it's bad at all (barring the halloween ep) it's just not the same show as season one.
My biggest pet peave about season two of DA is not the nomlies. It's the lack of relation to season one. Herbal and Bling disapear without a whisper of why or where they went. There's also an ep aboyt Joshua's brother Issac that's bacially the same thing a the season one ep Pollo Loco and it's not even mentioned as a way for Max to relate to Joshua. There's no "I understand. I been through the same thing." It bothered me mightily.
And I really missed Lydecker. One of the best villans ever. And even better as an amibiguos character.

Dark Angel is one of my favorite shows of all time. Up there w/ Firefly and the Lone Gunmen. I think I missed only two or three eps when they aired on TV. The first season was the best. Max was a lot cooler. She wasn't responsible for releasing all the other transgenics yet. She was funner. Also, Manticore (and Max) looking for just 12 kids was better than White hunting a whole bunch.
I think the second season, though drastically different from the first, was going somewhere but didn't have the chance to get there. Maybe they should have made the second season an entirely different show. The best part of season 2 is the characters. Most people love Joshua and love to hate White. Mole was a bad ass as well.
Transgenic since 2000

So glad to see the Dark Angel love here!
If the first season had been as good as the second, I still would have loved it, but it wouldn't be near Firefly IMO.
If the second had been as consistantly good as the first, Firefly would be my second favourite show...that's how much I thought of the first season!
