I have been strolling through the DVD set of Dark Angel over the past couple of weeks. I absolutely loved the first season. The second season is where I have some major problems.
It seems like they were hell-bent on hijacking the series by changing the tone of the writing, and introducing new characters that were pretty foreign to the idea of the show.
I won't go into it any more, yet, but am curious about anyone else's views of the show. I also find it a little funny Dark Angel fans that post on imdb partly blame Firefly for Dark Angel getting the axe.

I can give you my views after I buy it, I'm gonna buy both seasons when I'm on holiday in 2 weeks. I hope it's as good as people say it is, Michael Weatherly in NCIS is such a good actor and Jessica Alba is hot so I can't see Dark Angel being anything but brilliant.

Big fan here from the beginning. It's my co-second favourite series of all time (along with Buffy). The first of course is Firefly.
The first season (except for "Shortie's In Love) is PURE GOLD!!! Firefly quality, IMO.
The second season lost some of that 'realistic' vibe with the addition of the genetic 'nomolies. It became more science fiction-y. If you deal with the gear change (like me), the second season is very good, just not quite as gripping as the first, and heavy on the Max/Logan thing (which I didn't mind at all!)
Plus: final ep of the series directed by James Cameron!!! And it's a solid hour long!!Bonus!!!

I do believe season 1 to be the stronger of the 2 seasons. That is not to say I dismiss season 2 out of hand because there are a lot of good things that came along during those episodes.
You may want to dig around the archives. There are several informative threads on Dark Angel most of which were started by our very own Grand Poobah Chrisisall.

BTW, I liked her hair better in the first season, but near the end of season two it was getting pretty great in a different way/look.

Yeah, I have checked a few on SiTV lately. Season 1 is definitely better! *wishes Alba wore the D.A. suit in Fantastic Four*
I kinda like the theme music too.
Here are some previous discussions on this board.

There was a world of difference in seasons 1 and 2,and I thought they were really reaching w/ the host of new characters. I never really gave much thought that Firefly ended up in the same time slot as D.A. I really felt that D.A. was dying a self induced death all on its own, and (thankfully ) we got Firefly. For a while.
People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

I'd have thought that'd be right in your wheel house.

Thanks for digging up the old threads and all the insight. D.A. demise does appear to be self-induced, but it just appeared to be from misguided story-telling. It's not like 24 or Lost, where they just kinda ran out of story and were flying with no rudder.
Interviews with executives indicate that this was the plan for the plot of the series all along. It was also James Cameron's intention to have a portion of the series focus more on the "unusual" Manticore originated characters. They pushed the Sci-Fi area of the show and I think this alienated some of the slightly casual fans who tuned in to just watch Jessica Alba kick butt.
I'm partly typing out of my butt here, given that I'm not even half-way through the second season. That's just what it seems like so far.
