I would love to go to some of the UK shindigs--but being that that would involved trans-Atlantic flights, I'm not sure I can afford to do so! But if I'm ever in the neighborhood, we'll have to see how many UK Browncoats we can get together.

Nope, they weren't mean. And no, not a drop of blood. But basically, it was just an exercise in futility. I ask questions requesting justifications for grandiose claims (e.g. "Everything in the universe is either physical or imaginary") and get nonsense in return (e.g. "Everything that exists is real and everything real exists") (well, I guess not nonsense per se, but definitely tautology, which is almost as bad). Basically, the deal was that I tried to engage in a philosophical discussion against an unarmed (but supremely confident) opponent, which is just never fun. In the future I'll stay here--posting photos and looking at the pretties.
And plotting world domination.

Oh, sorry, I got hopelessly confused. I was sure I'd recognised you from last year's Firefly con in London (as well as from our many fun encounters on the board!) I'd completely forgotten that you're not from around my parts, despite the not unsubtle clues in your sig! My brain's not working so well today!
On another subject, thanks PR for finding one of the few piccies of me that I really like! And I'm touched that you went to the effort of saving/ remembering it.
