OK, folks. I just know that Static isn't the only military Browncoat on this site. But since no one seems to know what other ones there are, tells us a bit about yourselves: what branch? Duty station? Where ya been recently?

Myself, I'm in the U.S. Navy. I'm attached to the Navy SEAL Teams, in Coronado, CA. I got back from a tour in Iraq not too long ago where I saw such garden spots as An Nasiriyah (where Jessica Lynch was captured/rescued), An Numaniyah, and Baghdad. Before that I did a tour in Afghanistan, located at Kandahar International Airport, affectionately known as KIA.

I am in the Air Force currently in New Mexico. Had many trips the last couple years to the AOR. Lots of sun. I occupy my work time being a heavy junk mechanic.
On the board here, I lurk. I am eagerly awaiting the movie and hope it goes back to a TV series.

I spent 5 years in the Navy myself, 4 of them on the USS Independence (cv-62), an aircraft carrier. I was on from 1987-1991 and we were the first Navy carrier to respond when Iraq invaded Kuwait in August 1990. The ship was just a cpl days from arriving at Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean when we were ordered to the Persian Gulf. We cruised the Gulf of Oman as part of Desert Shield for 110 days, then the USS Midway took over and we were home by Christmas. We wound up staying in San Diego during Desert Storm. Soon after it was over I got out.

I was a junior officer, LTjg... and worked in the Operations department. I stood watches on the Bridge and in CDC (Combat Direction Center, CIC is on smaller ships).

And just a little trivia... they filmed Flight of the Intruder on my ship... the actors ate with the officers. They we all pretty cool. I discovered I'm the same height as Willem Defoe.

Anyhow, even though I'm not currently active duty, I remember what it was all like and I still feel a part of me is still out there with all you guys who are pounding the ground, aiming high, or hitting the high seas.

As a DoD civilian I have worked for the Army Materiel Command for fifteen years. I have mainly been around the eastern US (Benning, Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Picatinny Arsenal), but was once deployed to Haiti. The only thing I haven't done is tote a weapon. I consider myself a green civilian.

Army Reserve here, 1999-2007 . Headed out for my first deployment in less than a month. Wish me luck! It'll be an easy one tho, except for the time away from my family, as I am headed to Cuba.

I run the commo section for a MP EPW/CI (Military Police Enemy Prisoner of War/Civilian Internee, for you non military types out there) battalion.

Retired AF Reserve now. While on active duty got to SEA in the early Seventies on a long TDY. Spent the rest of my time bouncing around the states (NM, NY, HI, and OH) mostly tracking satellites. Left active duty to attend graduate school using the GI Bill. Now doing the same work as a contractor (the pay is a whole lot better).

Rob, are you in the Ohio Reserve? My sister ran a POW camp during the first gulf war (and wonders why we didn't just do it right the first time instead of throwing away lives now - but I digress). Anyway, aren't there just two battalions that perform this specialty?.

Also, I spent 10 years USAF. I was an Aircraft Technician and spent those years on F-15s, F-111s and F-16s. The husband spent 22 years as an electronics technician. We're both Browncoats.

Do veterans count? If so, I was in the US Army, 75th Ranger Regiment from 1987 until 1995. Proudly served in Ops Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
