Jayne Cobb is portrayed as being unnaturally strong. It is also mentioned more than once in the series that he is unnaturally heavy. i.e. In "The Train Job" the crew CAN'T move him from the bridge to the med lab. It would seem that he is unnaturally dense!
But I guess we knew that.
The boy has got to be on some kind of futuristic steroids! Or "Space-roids" if you prefer.

Am I alone in thinking along these lines?

i dont think jayne is on any "sproids" i just think its a mix of his huge muscle mass (which he got from just lifting alot of weights alot of the time) and his skull

Where would Jayne get the coin to buy these 'roids? Why haven't we seen him go into bits or 'roid rage?

Cuz he got his body the natural way- good Genes and lots of weights

and the fact that he eats so gorram much doesn't help.

Yeah, he's just a really huge guy. If you ever tried to carry that much dead weight, I'm betting you couldn't move it very far either.

But a normal man Jayne's size couldn't be that much over 200 pounds. Should be able to be carried by Book and another one of the guys fairly easily. (Even if he was 250 lbs. and Adam Baldwin's not that heavy I wouldn't think.)

But hey, I've been wrong before.

I don't remember anything saying he was unnaturally heavy or strong.

And the crew had other more important things to do than move him to the infirmary at that specific time.

I have wondered before whether he grew up on a planet with a slighlty heavier gravity than Earth norm. Would give him a head start on all those lovely muscles!

Jayne's size? You mean 6'4", broad, covered in muscle, plus a little layer of fat? He could easily weigh more than 200 pounds. Even if he didn't, I'll say again, that much dead weight is hardly anything to sneeze at. One member of the crew could not move it, and two members would need a stretcher and a few breaks to move it any kind of distance.
I'll have to ask my stepdad, who's slightly shorter but of a similar build, how much he weighs. I'm quite sure he was about 230 at the height of his fitness, and at the height of his fitness he had less fat on him than Jayne seems to have, so I would think Jayne could be 250 or more without stretching the imagination too much.
And actually, there are several references to gravity regulation in the terraforming. Maybe there was a quirk and it was slightly higher on the world Jayne came from, but then I have to think he wouldn't have grown nearly as tall.

Yeah, PR is right he could easily be that heavy. Also physical looks are not always a good guide to weight. I'm on the slightly chubby side but people constantly underestimate my weight due to my height, (no they are not just being polite), even here on Earth people's skeletal mass and muscle distribution can vary even with people who look similar.

Out of curiosity, does it say anywhere how they modify the gravity when terraforming? As Gravity is down to mass the only way I can see for them to do it is to either take away mass from the interior of a planet or add heavier elements in very large quantities.
