HI,

I'm thinking of making for myself Mal's cape from the Serenity Movie, when he goes to save Inara and meets the Operative.

Does anyone have any decent photos? Or can you point me in the direction of some decent photos?

Thanks a bunch!!!

It's not a cape. I think it's some kind of altar cloth or somesuch. But sure, there are screencaps.

Actually I thought Mal was wearing a table cloth. All the tassels hanging from it made it extremely odd. Odd is my polite word for it. My question is. Where did he get this thing?

So it is a cloak. My question is why would anyone make or wear a cloak which would have tassels hanging in your eyes and make it look like you were wearing Inara's altar cloth?

Heard from a not quite reliable source, that tassles, puffpalls, & the like around the head and face were intended to move about with the slightest head motion and/or breeze & scare off insects. Not that I imagine Inara would allow insects.

What a horrendous design. A heavy cloak that can scare bugs away from your face, when bugs are around the most in summer. Ech!

I like imagine that it was a curtain that was hanging in one of the class rooms that Mal ducked into as he was making his way to Inara's bedroom and he grabbed it to disguise himself.....

Or even better...he bought it at some time in the past as a gift for her for her shuttle that he never gave her....

Looks more like traditional Indian "saree" or Muslim female dress type thing...

Tassels are more for decoration. Definitely for scaring the bugs away.

You can see them on the "saree", the lady is wearing..the red one..
