Co-incidence, I think not so much.

Well, my copy of the Visual Companion Vol2 finally arrived (intertnational post - some amazon suppliers think that means 3-5 days, some save a few bucks and send 3-5 weeks; guess which I got?)
Anyhow....about halfway through are the id cards used by Wash, Zoe, Jayne and the Cap'n to break into the Hospital on Ariel. I don't know if anyone's remarked on it yet, but Mal's fake name is Miles, which means "Soldier," in the Latin.

Just bumping this really, but I can't believe that no-one else has felt the need to comment on this. I thought it was a really clever secret joke. Maybe there's discussion elsewhere (and if so, please point me there.)

I noticed you posted this the other day, HughFF, but didn't get a chance to comment before it disappeared. I'm glad you brought it back round.
I had heard there was an inside joke to the names on the id badges. Didn't realize that the name meant soldier.
Good find!

For some reason Jayne's name (Kiki La Rue) sounds to me like the stage name of a drag queen. I think they all may have significance but Miles/Soldier is the only one which I know for sure.

All I know is about the Jayne name you posted is that "la rue" is french for the street or the road. Something like that.
I'm not sure what the manes on the rest of them are.

Op: You're fighting a war you've already lost.
Mal: Yeah, well I'm known for that.

Wash - Beauma Sclevages
Zoe - Q. Kumamota
Jayne - Kiki LaRue
Mal - Miles Arixoen
Google has told me that there is, in fact, a drag queen called Danny La Rue, must've rung a distant bell.

Uh... I think you missed the joke here.
Mal - Miles Arixoen
Sound it out.
The real question is, which crew was being silly - the show's or the ship's?

Perhaps because of not having English as a first language, sounding it out does not solve the riddle.
Miles o' rick sewin'?
I know this thread is a year old, but please take pity on me and let me in on the secret.
Thank you in advance,
Polly
