Must remember to breathe
In through the nose, out through the mouth
repeat until calm
OMGOMGOMG what am I doing? I've lost my mind. I've just tentatively reserved and entire theater for a showing of Serenity for Can't Stop The Serenity next June. Yep, next June. The 22nd - its a Sunday. The theater manager is a Browncoat and we (ha! what we? there is only me eep!) get the not-for-profit rate of $500. This year at least the movie is a flat rental fee of $250 for CSTS showings. The official CSTS site says that most tickets are presold at $10 each so if I can get 100 paying customers that would be a profit for Equality Now of $250. There are other things that can be done as well. Right now I'm just trying to remember to breathe. I'm waiting to hear back about how much of a deposit the manager wants and when. OMGOMGOGMOMGOMG what am I doing..........
For the record is is a beautiful theater, a restored opera house with a full balcony, but alas no box seats. I love the place and when I said how it might be nice to try and arrange a showing locally the hubby jumped right in with "It has to be at the Opera House".
I need to lie down with a cold compress on my head and perhaps a brandy to calm my nerves.

Early starter!
Don't forget, tickets isn't the only thing that will let you pull in money for Equality Now. Merch sales (t-shirts, etc.) and raffles and/or auctions help too.
Most organizers are still decompressing, etc. but you should join the global CSTS forums if you haven't already.

Congrats MADAMRUPPY! and welcome to the madness...
Getting the theater is one of the biggest hurdles. So for now, put out requests for assistants and pat yourself on the back for a month or three until things start rollin' again.
You rock!

Congrats on finding a theatre at a great price!
I am still winding down from Austin's event, but I see you joined the forum, so I can't wait to talk more!
EDIT:
That place looks awesome! And it can hold a lot of people! Wow - I am really jealous!

Wow! Early birds get the Opera House!
Join the forum and read through the ups and downs that the other Organizers went through and make sure you get some assistants you can rely on!
Ask for advice if you get bogged down and when its all over, step back and feel proud of what you've accomplished.

Congratulations, madamruppy! It looks like a lovely venue. As was said, securing a venue is usually the hardest - and certainly the first step.
See you on the CSTS forum.

I've been a fan for a while, just not an active one. I've organized things before for my LARPing as well as the Kiwanis club when I was president. So I'm not new to that either. However I have some sort of dim memory of saying things like "never again" and "not in this lifetime" but they are fuzzy.

Thanks muchly. I even know who I'm going to con, er, convince to volunteer to pay for a bunch of the advertising and donate a huge gift basket for a drawing. He doesn't know it yet, but he will. If all else fails I'll sic his wife on him and she'll make him do it.
