Timeline / Independance War help

Hey all,

I just need to make sure i have the right timeline for a few fics i got going. So:

As of the end of Serenity, how long ago was the end of the war?

How long did the war last?

How long after the end of the war was it before Inara came aboard Serenity?

And about the war itself, what do you think would have been the minimum age both sides would have allowed for their respective soldiers?

And finally- what, if any, are the ship naming policies? Like the Alliance name their ships after...? and what do you think the Browncoat ships of the line would have been named after? (Both ship makes, and actual names). Please speculate if there arn't any, i need ideas. hehe.

Not sure if this is correct, but I think the war lasted about 4 and a half years.

Then around 6 years to the first Serenity, the pilot episode. ("6 years later" at the start of the Pilot)

A further 8 or so months to the movie if you go by the "8 months!" quote from the BDM.

So, 11 years or so depending on how long the war actually was.

Could be slightly longer as in Safe we have a flashback going back 11 years, where River is play acting the war.

I would go with 18 as the minimum age for combatants. Of course you're going to have a few that are underage and used fake ID's to enlist.

I would think more on the Independent side though as there's more emotion, ie defending their home. Birth records wouldn't be as readily available either on the Rim and Border areas.

If you are not a member of the 76th then it might be worth your while joining up as there has been a lot of work done on creating a timeline within the contexts of canon information for the war itself.
