The best part was watching how the Doctor and the Dalek played off one another. As one became more human (for lack of a better term), the other became more monstrous. Definitely will have to watch for that temper in the future.

Reactions to the season finale?

Personally I was a bit mixed. I thought the last 25 minutes was excellent, but it came after (IMO) the most over-blown mess since the revival of the series three years ago. The episode really did not start working for me until the Doctor and the Master were able to have a true face-off.

What are everyone's impressions on David Tennant? I've really enjoyed Christopher Eccleston's performance so far, so I'm starting to think that I might have trouble adjusting to a new Doctor. And John Barrowman? Coolness.

I don't think you'll have a problem with David Tennant. Christopher Eccleston did a fantastic job of bringing the Doctor back. But personally I think David does a slightly better job. He looks like he is really enjoying playing the part and this comes through as the Doctor. He's got more of the eccentricity about him, more craziness, and the scenes were you need to feel sad or sorry for him are simply stunning

Yeah, I liked the episode but I was expecting a bit more. John Simm is great as The Master and I am so glad they brought the character back. He was always my favourite non-pepperpot villain.
Had no problem with the Doctor being old but that Gollum type thing was a bit far.

I've noticed that this incarnation of the Doctor likes to use the power of speech.
He brought down Harriet with six words (brilliant), he forgave The Master and Martha told the story of the Doctor so that they could all use his name as a psychic connection.

And the actual ending was suitably WTF??
I somehow think it will be a space-going version of that ship, not the actual one. And how the hell did it break through the Tardis?

I'm not convinced that Freema is out either. Saw an interview that led me to believe that she was leaving (she spoke about 'they' rather than 'she'). But I also read that she had stated that she wasn't leaving. So I think it's just a plot twist. Make you think she has gone (so the Doctor is really alone again) and then bring her back in the Xmas special or maybe even the fourth season.
Remember that she did give him the phone.

And for UK viewers did anyone watch The Weakest Link before it? Very, very funny. David, John and Noel were just hilarious and you could tell the audience wanted David to win. Their reaction when he was voted off was great.

Not as good as i thought it was going to be think they could have made it better. But it was still good. cant wait for the xmas special.

Deepgirl - you will have no problem adjusting to David Tennant. Many people had that same fear and after the first few episodes of the second season (particularly by "School Reunion" & "Girl in the Fireplace") David is so firmly established in the role you'll be saying 'Christopher Who?' (no pun intended)

Also of note to Deepgirl (in case you didn't already know) is that there were several other Doctors before CE. I personally feel that it is important to go back and see some of the earlier episodes (all if you can) so that you can get a richer and more appreciative understanding of The Doctor and not just the actor who plays him.

I'm not saying you don't appreciate him, just that there is soooo much more than what one actor brings to the table. Plus with (what 40 years?) of back story, you just can't go wrong. Just be willing to look past the dated SFX, and you should enjoy them.

I'm not sure how to react to the season finale. It's not that it was all bad, but there were a few elements that felt very odd.

John Simm was great on Life On Mars, but I felt that the Master's character was far too wacky and less dangerous. (I could appreciate the unhinged personality to a degree, but he was no 'Joker' so to speak. Or maybe it was that the character was blatantly trying to be too much like the Joker, and failing badly. There wasn't enough edge or real danger.)

I liked the fact that the Toclafane were the humans of the future. That was a chilling twist.

I wasn't too keen on the 'Gollum Doctor' though. It seemed like Russel T Davis had thought 'let's throw this in for effect', rather than write something that really serviced the plot.

On the plus side, I was stunned when they revealed that Captain Jack is/was the Face of Bo. That was a really cool bombshell.

Captain Jack had a lot of cool one liners in the last couple of episodes, and they were present in this one too. They always bring a smile to my face.

The Doctor's exclamation at the end of the episode was kinda flat. I hope they stop repeating it every year lol.

Concerning the Titantic, I recall Christopher Eccleston (as the Doctor) mentioning that he sailed on the Titanic once. I think it was in the first episode of the first series. Does that mess up the continuity?

Overall, I felt that it was a mixed bag of good and bad points. I might need to rewatch the last couple of episodes to fully apprecite it.

I'm actually intrigued about the Christmas special though..
