Nooooooo! Steven Moffat must spend the rest of his life chained to his wordprocessor writing episodes like "Blink", "The Girl In the Fireplace" and "The Empty Child". If he was executive producer he'd probably have to spend time doing all sorts of other admin rubbish. :-)

Although the episodes that RTD writes himself are not the strongest, he's obviously doing something right by creating an environment in which Moffat and co can do their stuff.

P.S. The BBC's Jekyl and Hyde re-make this coming saturday is written by Moffat, so it may be worth a gander.

(Looking at IMDB page...) Ah - he did "Press Gang". Figures.

ANOTHER great episode this week! Derek Jacobi rocked!!! One of the best roles I have seen him do...too bad he isn't in more than just this one episode.

Oh yes. I absolutely loved this ep, just to see the slow transformation of this kindly, elderly doctor whom you thought was slowly transforming into those new human things, but who really only now realized that he is another Time Lord, and not just any Time Lord for that matter, but The Master himself.

This is the first time I've seen him, and already I'm scared. This guy could give the Daleks and the Cybermen a run for their money. You really do get the idea that he's sort of the nightmare version of The Doctor.

So many great one-liners in this episode. I was laughing my head off. This was action packed, dramatic and fast paced. Russel T Davis has still got it. I'm SO glad that Captain Jack is back!

John Barrowman and David Tennant are best mates in real life. It was great to see them act together on the screen. You could see that they were having so much fun making that episode.

The writers have given actor John Simm a PRETTY big role in the Who 'Verse. It's cool to see him on the show with a meaty role. (I'd still have loved to have seen a Who/Life On Mars crossover though.)

I was impressed with this episode. I actually yelled at the tv on Saturday night, and said: 'the Doctor is SO screwed!' Can't wait for the next episode!

Love that line from the advert/episode.

Well I thought it was another excellent episode. John Simm is great as The Master, and I like that he has a similar energy and eccentricity that The Doctor has. It's a major change from the straight forward evil of the previous Masters. The idea of a wife was a bit odd at first but when you find out that it was a companion of his it makes more sense, and she's completely on his side.

The Master seemed genuinely surprised when he found out that Gallifrey was no more, although I wasn't as convinced when he was told there were no more Time Lords but him and The Doctor.

This led to a (weak) theory that maybe the Toclafane (or however you spell it) were the Time Lords. If The Master was ressurected by them to fight in the Time War maybe he betrayed them and somehow stored the souls/energy of the Time Lords in these things and sent them away. Then ran away himself, as stated, till he could come back and rule over everything.
The Doctor did say the Toclafane were a Gallifreyan legend, maybe the link to that place is stronger that just a name.

I don't actually think I'm right in this theory, I just like the idea. Put The Doctor in a place where his people are being used for evil.

It was a great episode cant believe the finale is next week i want more episodes!! It was soooo good though cant wait for next week

LOVED this episode! Good reaction by the Doctor when he found out Jack was now working for Torchwood!!! After what happened at Canary Warf I don't blame the Doctor for being just a bit paranoid about the organization.

I know this thread has quite a few spoilers, so I'll just pretend I don't see them.

I just started watching the series recently, and today I saw "Dalek". And let me tell you, my world was blown. Here we have what amounts to a floating tin can looks-wise, and somehow they manage to make it into a multi-faceted and interesting character. And Christopher Eccleston? The man can do no wrong. If I wasn't a drooling fan before, I am now.

I know. "Dalek" is one of my favorite episodes of the first season, next to "Father's Day". It's definitely one that makes you sit up from the couch and hinge on every word. I had only seen one ep of the classic WHO ("Pyramids of Mars"), so I had never seen a Dalek. I knew of them, but not really had the experience. But that reveal of the Dalek in the vault was just pitch perfect. Up until then, you've only seen The Doctor as passive and unphased by anything. But when you see him go from terrified to sadistic as he sees this "space dustbin" chained up. You know that this is a real threat. And that voice. It's sounds like something that only has a vague idea on what English sounds like through a cigarette addled voice box.

Favorite line was "THEN HEAR ME TALK NOW!!! EXTERMINATE, EXTERMINATE, EXTERMINAAATTEEE!!!!!"

After that ep, I know for certain that the Daleks are the best evil alien race ever in sci-fi. Forget the Borg, the xenomorphs from ALIEN, the Predators or the Cylons, The Daleks reign supreme. They can't be reasoned with. They're genocide made corporeal.
