What if... Firefly had been British?

I think it might have been like Red Drawf if it was a English show, popular in UK but not abroad since Red Drawf was very different type of sci-fi than the norm and so was Firefly, plus we Brits never really had Firefly in Britain properly since only a few people watch the Sci-fi channel so nobody knows if Firefly would have been popular in the UK, personally I think it would have been popular since in 2002 the BBC & C4 were still actually showning sci-fi programs & anything on those channels which was sci-fi was always popular..

The Irish have the same problem by the way. We are all supposed to be constantly saying "begorrah" and "top of the mornin to ya" while wearing green and dancing with leprechauns (which actually only happens every few months of so)

The only actor that I can think of who reminds me a bit of River is Hannah Murray who played Cassie in the E4 series of Skins. Wrong hair colour but the same slightly ethereal look.

That is a damn good suggestion. She would be pretty perfect for the role. Ioan Gruffudd would make a pretty good Simon I think, although he is a bit older.

The Alliance would definitely suit being British bureaucrats and politicians. All aloof and smug in their power. The corruption is already there so not far to go!!

And the tea cups (not mugs) they use would be held between thumb and first finger, the other fingers stretching out to the side, away from the cup.
Cucumber sandwiches, cut diagonally, with no crusts would be daintily placed on a plate. Another plate would contain jam and cream scones.
One would then proceed to talk about the cricket, the weather or the Royal Family.

This might mean a return of Wolfie Smith as a retired Browncoat (although he would have been called a Greencoat) showing Mal the way to go.

If Joss had still been writing and directing it probably would have turned out to be pretty good, at the very least you would have gotten more than half a season (we don't have ass hole tv corporations like Fox over here). Although that said if Whedon was writing i would be slightly worried given his generally woeful portrayal of British people in the past (Giles and Wesley, need i say more... Spike was sorta okay). I expect that the Canadian actors could still be in it (thank God for the Commonwealth), and if you got the people who did the new series of Dr Who to do the special effects it would probably reach a similar standard.
Plus we would have allowed the original pilot to be aired since we are not afraid of character exposition.
Oh, and if any of you dare to make another joke about the accent, or the culture i will reach through my broad band connection and strangle you. After all your nation is hardly the pinacle of civilisation, is it now?

I may wear brown, but theres a little purple mixed in ther too.

A great question, deserves a response.
You'd see alot of complaining about why the picture really looks so grainy. More mustaches. A telephone booth located inside serenity. Jayne would speak in a Cockney accent. Chinese vernacular would sound polished (but no freaking way England would have ended up being one of the two final superpowers).and Mal would be wearing not a brown coat, but some form of tweed.

Much as I like the actor, I think it'd be typecasting him a little. Mr. Fantastic was more than a little uptight.
