Well last night for a moment I thought I saw the scariest monster that's ever appeared on Doctor Who, when I suddenly remembered that it was in fact the Ukrainian entry for the Eurovision Song Contest...

I've just downloaded the Children in need special 15 minute ep that covered the gap between the first and second series. Brilliant for helping me get through the Who vacation.

There was an element of Deja Vu, yes... I'm sure that all these things (2 films about giant meteors in the same year, 2 series about UN-in-space spacestations, 2 fact-based films about the same squeaky-voiced author, 374 computer animations about anthropomorphic animals getting lost...) are total coincidences, though.

P.s. - Martha's "theme" in the score - Shrek, anyone?

After being slightly disappointed with "42", I was completely blown away with "Human Nature"/"Family of Blood". Two of the best episodes in the history of the series (going back to 1963, not just 2005).

David was amazing in the subtle differences he brought to "Mr. Smith", which I really didn't appreciate until he became "the Doctor" again. I was close to tears at the end.

Yeah I really loved these two episodes as well.
They really showed that he wasn't the same person at all. It wasn't just the Doctor without his Timelord part, John Smith really was a whole other person, a part of the Doctor that very rarely, if ever gets out.
I genuinely felt sorry for him when knew what must be done, and made the decision. So brave of that character.
But having said that it was good to have our Doctor back and fiddling with controls that he shouldn't be messing with.
David Tennant really does a brilliant job of playing up the eccentric, slighty crazy side of the Doctor. And makes it very funny too.

The scarecrows are the best Who baddies ever. Forget the Daleks or the Ood, or the Sea vampires, or any others.. The scarecrows rocked!

Nuff said.

The last two eps of the third season were fantastic. I was bit worried that The Family Of Blood would fall into the traditional 'rubbish second part' trap that does occasionally plague tv and movies, but it did the job. I was seriously impressed.

Also, the recent two parter had a gritty, adult, Torwood feel to it, and it was refreshing to see David Tennant showcase a little more of his talent.

I'll admit that I teared up at the end of 'Family Of Blood.' It was just a really touching moment when they visited the war memorial ceremony.

Oh, those episodes were so good. I too was nearly in tears at the end

Not surprising - it was adapted from one of the "New Adventures" novels published after the cancellation of the original series and firmly aimed at a more adult audience. Big hint to RTD: GOOD IDEA - TRY IT AGAIN SOON!

I wouldn't insult it by comparing it to Torchwood (which had its moments but was aptly described by a friend as "not really more adult, just less suitable for children").

The problem is I've just been re-watching Ultraviolet (The 90's mini-series, not the recent film - see http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0169501/) which is what I think Torchwood should have been like - especially as the writer/director has since been involved in Dr Who. OK, maybe they could have added a few laughs (UV is pretty downbeat).
