You miss my point. I don't have an issue with you seeing the show from a certain perspective, nor an issue with you wanting to find similar people.

The point was that you can't start a thread saying "the show is about my politics" and then several posts later say you just want to find people who enjoy the show without using it to further their politics.

By all means, seek out people with like-minded politics who like the show. I never once said that was a bad or misguided thing.

It's just that some of us are capable of doing eexactly that same thing without attacking people on the other side of the political issue. It's YOU who seem incapable of letting everyone do their own thing when it comes to the show.

From your answer, I don't think you are here looking for like-minded people. I think that you are here to bad mouth some people whom you did not have the social skill to interact with. This is evidenced by your name-calling attack 5 months later under on a national message board.

If someone says something that you don't like... you do not have to interact with him or her. The world has great variety - you do not have to like that fact but you do need to manage yourself within this diversity. I feel that Firefly does a good job of illustrating that lesson in almost every episode.

There were somewhere around 30 people at that party when it got into full swing. There was a concert, a haiku contest, singing, great food (some of it by a pro chef), gaming and much more.

You yourself said "I was having a blast with the gamers." That gang is a blast... it is a pity that you did not take the chance to know them. They are writing their own game AND their humor is second to none.

It sounds like you two ran out the door before you made any effort to see if you could make any real connection with people who were not that white-haired woman.

So here is my suggestion: There is already a Firefly meet-up group in St. Paul that is not associated with MNFirefly.com. I have not connected with them so I don't know what their events are like. If their event turn out is low, why not join in and help? Their next event is Saturday, Jun 2, 2007, 2:00 PM.

I will also suggest you make some efforts to raise your emotional intelligence. Check out: Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ by Daniel Goleman. He just released a new addition of this classic. Though it you might understand how the characters on Serenity can still work effectively, enjoy each other and even live together without being "like-minded." Plus, how you can do that too.

You can suggest all you want, but I'm not the kind that needs "self improvement materials" or "life lesson planners" to get a good hold on my perspective. Your concern was sweet though, and I'll tip my very fine hat to you.

Hmmm, I can't recall that we ran screaming, being the wise, undramatic, and mature people we are, we just left, rather than to take up the argument bait that was offered to start a rukus and spoil an nice event. I even left an unopened french silk chocolate Marie Calendar's pie as a parting gift. I guess if I have to sad about something, it'd be the loss of the chocolate. Oh well, selah...

Yikes, this is really an whiny/uptight crowd for being so "liberal". Weird.

I guess my thinking is that there aren't enough right-winger Firefly fans in MN with free time to reply; they're too busy working, trying to pay their taxes, mortgages...you know doing responsible stuff. Yes, I am feeling a bit of the wastrel hanging here now that I know which way the wind blows...kinda fruity and flowery...
