Saw this over at Whedonesque and it's the first I've heard of it: "Sanctuary", written by Damian Kindler and starring Amanda Tapping, both of "Stargate SG-1". It looks like it could be good (or not), but what's really interesting to me is that it's a series being made NOT for broadcast or cable or even direct to DVD, but for release over the web. If this works it could be The Future of episodic genre shows. No big network execs, no mucking around with broadcast schedules, no DVD distribution headaches, no need to pander to Nielsen families. Imagine if Firefly had been done like this... I'm guessing we'd be discussing Season 6 here. Imagine if a Firefly sequel -- or some equally inspired Joss concept -- were to be done like this.
So I hope it IS good, and that it's successful, not only for its own sake but for the sake of what could be a revolutionary approach to narrowcasting. I'm not expecting Joss quality from this show, of course. But if it's just good enough, and it's marketed well... well, "that'll be an interesting day."

Been reading about this online and heard a small bit about it on the Secret Identity podcast and I am looking forward to it. The premise looks cool and I have to admit I immediately thought of a possibility for Firefly / Serenity when I heard of this concept of an online episodic show. As you said this would eliminate big studios who don't understand or promote the show. It would eliminate their future being hinged on the Nielson families. It might very well be the future of genre television.

The first webisode is out and it's pretty good. You can watch it free (in low res) here: http://sanctuaryfans.com/site/ . Unfortunately the Sanctuary web site is having some trouble so you probably can't buy the high res versions at the moment.
Too early to say it's going to be a good show, but I think it has promise.
