I dunno.

Well, I have no idea what you might mean by saying that Wash "deserves" a new life, but will he get it? No, I don't think so--not life a new life as such.

I'm pretty sure flashbacks, dreams, memories, or even plotlines involving extensive backstory are on the table in terms of how to bring Wash and Book back into the 'Verse. But magic is definitely out, so that limits resurrection options. Cloning might be an option on the table, but I have a hard time seeing how that could be done in a non-cheesy way ("Look everybody! Wash and Book are back thanks to the miracle of cloning!" That just doesn't seem to be Joss's style). Maybe Joss could come up with something, but my money's on the flashback-style reappearance.

In my Serenity-sequel-fantasy, we have two timelines: one post-Serenity timeline where the crew is being pursued by some baddie, and one pre-Serenity timeline that gives us Book's backstory.

I almost dropped my popcorn when Wash got harpooned (somehow I'd avoided the spoilers and didn't see it coming) - if I have an alter-ego on the Serenity crew, Wash would be it. I'll miss his presence (and Book's) in any future Firefly/Serenity material, but I share the view that any way I can think of to bring him or Book back would be unavoidably cheap and cheesy (clones, apparitions, etc.). I mean, I got a little squirmy over the holographic headstones...but I blame a lot of that reaction on the last 5 minutes of Return of the Jedi. BTAIM, if JW can think of a way to do it, I'm prepared to be stupefied (always...always prepared to be stupefied)...

It was like that when we got here!

Hmmm...I feel your pain (or, perhaps more accurately, Wash feels your pain)...there's a Browncoat by the name of CHUCKNORRIS currently holding forth under the "Why the ruddy hell did Wash have to die? Like WTF!" thread who seems particualrly in need of commisseration(sp) (unlike me, who has a Wash inflatable doll at home)...

I've been wrestling with this question for over a week now (when I saw "Serenity" for the very first time), and all I know is, there's no member of the crew I'd have willingly given up in his place...

It was like that when we got here!
