I was planning on watching the re-airing of the pilot on Thursday, and if it's any good I'll try and tape it from then on since I'm usually busy Friday nights. They should give it a better timeslot, and a while to find an audience.

On another saddish note, Kingdom Hospital's ratings dropped by half for the second episode, not good at all. I think ABC is obligated to show all 13 episodes before they cancel it though, so at least it'll be able to finish its story.

i finally got my tape today! yay! i just got done watching it and i really liked it. it really isn't anything like joan of arcadia if you watch it. the premises are similar, but the tone is entirely different. plus, jewel staite soon!

I agree, this is a very important distinction, I think the main character is what makes Wonderfalls so much better than Joan of Arcadia, and the actress who plays Jaye plays her to perfection. Her personality and attitude towards life make her reactions to what she's being asked to do much more interesting than what happens on JoA.

Oh, and the best way to download episodes? Download BitTorrent and go to www.suprnova.org. They're pretty much guaranteed to have everything.

If you're worried about missing the full show - don't be. The original is rentable, and roughly %100 better. As a long time King fan I was a little shocked and a lot miffed to see him put his name on such a screamin' rip off w/o so much as a word of acknowledgement for the fantastic original. A Danish miniseries, called (of course), 'The Kingdom' You usually have to go to an alternative video store to find it, but it's well worth looking for. Great stuff. I venture to say that anyone who likes this new 'version' will be a bigger fan of the real thing.

I saw the pilot, and thought it was quite remarkable. I don't think it's just the main character who makes it different (though her ho-hum outlook, and distance from those around her, is a big unexpected plus); the whole feel of the show is, in a word, very weird. And I don't just mean how casually surreal it is (someone compared it to Ally McBeal, but they've already take it FAR past that point, just by the sheer density of the weirdness, and the line about importance of embuing the world around us with consciousness) ...I also mean the basic comedy style, which is bouncing all over the place (it starts out practically addressing the audience, jumps to a sort of satirical distance, then dumps into pen-tracheotomy black comedy ...and shifts into odd pacing humour with strange pauses ...this show 'acts' normal, but it is NOT).
Not to mention the storytelling style, which in the pilot was quite crazy---most of the time she is pursuing actions that have no apparent purpose, that seem totally ridiculous, and we are floating forward in these moments that don't seem to be going anywhere (eg. chasing after a bouncing penny, which lead to __ which lead to ___). For this and many other reasons, this is the ultimate 20-something show, potentially much better than any other I've seen (though Angel has hit a few of these notes quite well). It certainly makes something like Tru Calling look like utter trash (except for Eliza's very natural performance of course).
This is an odd odd show---and as Tim Minear points out in a recent interview, it doesn't strike one as being all that odd, even though it's as offbeat as a show like Firefly.
well, my thoughts about it are still jumbled, and I did think the ending was too cutsey and easy, but there's a lot of potential here. The basic style, just the idea of the world around a main character being constantly alive like that, combined with the main character's somewhat jaded outlook, and combined with the multi-style outrageous comedy, is an exciting universe to explore.
(and also, I haven't focused on the satire, but that's a very big deal. I don't think any show like this has taken it quite this far; for instance, the way her family was portrayed, was a truly biting satirical portrayal ...and yet without being a totally "detached" comedy like Seinfeld, ie. we are not simply asked to sit back and laugh, we are also asked to connect with the main character's reality of having this family and not being able to connect).

In any case, the next episode is written by Tim Minear (Out of Gas, Bushwakced), so all Firefly fans should watch!

Everyone should ignore the lame new version,
and go rent the original, and while they're at it they should see all the movies that Lars Von Trier ever made.

I also like watching "Joan of Arcadia" and "Tru Calling". Excellent shows.

Yes it is an important distinction... once you get past the premise of the show. My point is that it's not unreasonable that the shows are being compared to each other because their premises are very similar.

I personally wasn't too impressed with the first episode. But I'll probably give it a few more episodes before rendering my final verdict.
