you think the tv networks would have learned from cancelling family guy. It got cancelled then cleaned up in the dvd sales market so fox took it back. Maybe if they stuck with a show such as drive or arrested development or firefly they might have had something which could compete in the ratings. Should firefly ever be ressurected im fairly confident it would do well due to the response from fans after the cancellation not to mention that serenity had to help them gain some popularity.

One of the most telling statements about fox occured on the first episode after Family Guy returned. Lois asks Peter what it would take to for them to get back on TV, Peter responds by listing all of the shows fox would need to cancel before they would be allowed back on the air. It is amazing how many series got the axe in such a short span of time. The suits at that network have really itchy trigger fingers.

another thing that bothers me is that fox looked around for someone else to take firefly and noone would not even the networks which liked to screen sci fi shows. I actually live in the uk so i dont actually have the fox channel but it just seems that they like to cancel shows which are held in high regard but have low ratings in the first few episodes. They want ready made success thats their biggest problem and unfortunately the only way to do that is to put a big star in the programme e.g. kiefer sutherland in 24. But i would sooner not see firefly on the air than to change any of the cast members for better known actors.

In my humble opinion, FOX should never have gotten Family Guy back. They dropped it, and let someone else do the work of carrying the heavy load until it got popular, then they took it back. Now, I don't know who has rights or any of that. I'm saying that if everything was right, aside from a few of us being in jail, they wouldn't be able to do that. They want to make the money without the effort. As Adult Swim said... "Arrested Development. Genius. Cancelled. Maybe we should pick it up. We've pulled good stuff out of the Fox trash before."

im actually surprised that firefly didnt at least attempt to try and do what family guy did and that is release another series on dvd and see how the sales went. That was family guys saving grace coz the dvd sales were phenomenal and when you think of all the firefly fans who go the comic cons and all the fans on the fansites im fairly certain that another series released only on dvd would seel very well. It would give some of the so called fans no choice but to purchase the dvds like the majority of the fans did coz im fairly certain there would be a minority who either taped it or downloaded it. If sales did well fox or another network would surely pick it up and ressurect the sereies on television.

You can't blame them for "Arrested Development". They kept it on the air for three seasons despite low ratings, even pulling it duirng sweeps so that they wouldn't be forced to cancel it. Mind you, they could have promoted it better and given it a better time slot, but... well, it had a great run, and the ending was utterly perfect. So, I can't complain.
But... canceling "Drive" after four episodes? Uggg. Well, at least the remaing two *should* be aired over the summer.

It wasn't the DVD sales that really brought back Family Guy. It was the high ratings the reruns recieved on Cartoon Net and TBS.

i actually saw a program about the best cartoons out there and apparently family guy is one of the best selling dvds going which is why they carried on the series and also brought out american dad

i never got a chance to see drive nor am i likely to which is dissapointing coz i think nathon fillion is a quality actor i actually saw white noise:the light the other night and thought he was brilliant in it slither was also quite good he does have a wide range of acting capibilities which is why i find it shocking that he hasnt struck it big yet plus two guys and a girl was a much better sitcom than friends
