Will they ever release a Blu-Ray version?
I really would like it. Movies look awesome on a Blu-Ray. Like Casino Royale.

Universal Pictures backs HD-DVD, so why would they release a movie in what to them, in essence, is the competing format?

Blu Ray is dominating in the format war. And they have almost identical selections in DVDs. So i think it will be very likely

Universal only supports HD-DVD right now, unless HD-DVD fails and Blu-Ray wins out it won't happen and I think it will not happen at all. I think that they might release a disc that has both on it or you should buy the LG multi-blue DVD player (which plays both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray discs. http://us.lge.com/products/model/detail/tv|audio|video_digital%20video

I hope that helps. Blu-Ray isn't dominating right now. The number of discs being sold are closer (and not nearly high enough) than either company would like. The both might lose out to digital downloads or some new format. I have HD-DVD and I think that HD-DVD and Blu-Ray is not worth the money at this time but Blu-Ray is winning.
Disney, Sony pictures and Apple Comuters only support Blu-Ray right now.
Microsoft (not a selling point in my opinion) and I think New Line supports HD-DVD only.
Warner Bros. and HBO support both (I think their might be more but that is all I know of now.)

Warner Brothers has come up with a dual format disc compatible with both. Named "Total HD". This may be the way they all go in future. …along with the Dual format players from LG and Samsung.
However, it is not quite clear when this will pan out. Depending on any contractual obligations, I doubt Universal will start producing them (or jump ship) until it is certain how the Dual "players" are received by the marketplace.

Walmart may well be planning on a cheap HD-DVD player by the end of the year, which could spell doom for Blu-ray.

I personally hope HD-DVD succeeds over Sony, because I'm tired of Sony bullying the market with their products...beta, mini-disc, memory stick, etc. Why can't they just agree on a common ground like everyone else?

Actually, Blu-Ray is outselling HD-DVD at more than 2:1 now. And it has a lot more studio backing now.
Also, the Digitalbits posted a list today of all the big movies for the rest of the year, and over half were Blu-Ray only, with only two or three being HD-DVD exclusive (the remainder being available on both).

IMO the fact that Blu-ray is a Sony proprietary format is reason enough to not buy it unless I have to, but that's just me.
