'Daleks In Manhatten' was an incredibly brave episode. It didn't quite have the punch as last week's episode, but they've advanced the mythology of the Daleks in a bold and interesting way. It'll be cool to see how it pans out.
The hybrid Human Dalek didn't look too scary, although that's down to the fact that it's a family show. From a positive and technical standpoint, the animatronics are kick ass this year. The Rhino head and the Dalek Human hybrid are impressive for a tv show.
The tone of the third series is very comic bookesque too, moreso than the previous two. That's not a bad thing though. It gives it a cool stylised look.
Although, I feel there's a sense of de ja vu with the stories. This might just be the Doctor looking for some familiarity after the loss of Rose. Even Martha raised that point in the last episode.
For example, 'The Shakespeare Code' was kind of reminiscent of 'The Unquiet Dead' from series one. It contained two famous English writers and an evil portal.
It's true that the series repeats certain elements. There will always be 'historicals' in the show, although I feel they're sorta following too much of a similar pattern. Why does it have to be two historical writers and a rift/portal of some kind?
'Daleks In Manhatten' was reminiscent of 'Dalek' in series one. Both episodes featured a power hungry American, and Daleks contaminated with/changing through human DNA. (Rose's DNA regenerated and altered the Dalek in series one, and Sek merged itself with human DNA in 'Daleks in New York.')
The third series seems to combine parts of series one and two. I'm maybe overanalysing, but it is odd to see these trends. Is it a lazy repetition of a theme, just a deliberate and subtle hint at something planned for series three (Russel T Davis has said in interview that he has been leading up to certain events this series. It might be related to the Saxon story arc and not the Dalek one though) or is it my imagination?
Overall, I still love David Tennnant's performance this series. It's the strongest thus far. Freema Aygeman is a great addition to the show. I'm also eagerly awaiting the return of Captain Jack Harkness this series too. That's gonna be cracking!

I completely agree with your points about how this seems like a combination of series one and two (so far). I also agree that David has never been better and that Freema is a wonderful addition to the cast.
The one point I seem to be at odds with everyone is over how good "Gridlock" was. I found it slow and almost boring, yet everyone else talks about how much they enjoyed it. I accept that I may have missed the point of it, so I even went back and rewatched it, and I still found it lacking. Other than that story I have been loving this season!

Ok, before you guys start throwing things at me, I want to state that I love Dr Who. ok? got that? right. So can someone please tell me why the Manhattan episode was so bad? the plot was obvious, there were no twists or turns in the narrative, and only a few of the characters were believable. Add that to the fact that the BBC has taken on the wonderful habit of previewing the episode JUST ABOUT TO START and you can start to see my annoyance. True, only the first part has been aired, and I live in hope that Mr Davis has taken back the reigns for it, and somehow manages to turn it around.
Granted, we all know (or can guess) that something big is coming up this series, but it feels like there just going through the motions of getting rid of one story line so they can focus on that. Strikes me as a bit of a shame, that's all. But of course, that's just my opinion..*ducks*

I dunno, Knocker....
I really liked this episode. What I really really liked was that the actors were doing a very fair job at the American accents. Unfortunately Fred's (I think that was his name: young kid, one of the ones caught for the Final Experiment) accent sounded less Tennessee and more Arkansas/Texan, but meh I still liked it.
But, enough with the nitpicking on my part. I really did enjoy this episode. As I've stated before, I really like Martha more than Rose. Now, don't get me wrong, I actually really liked Billie Piper and her character! I just like Martha better. That's just me though.
So far, I've got to say, Season 3 is turning out quite excellent!

I realized those of us in the U.S. are not supposed to lay eyes on Torchwood, but I did! And I really liked it....ALOT. My only complaint with it was having Capt. Jack's sexual preferences known. I will freely admit I am extremely prudish in my ways, and I have a hard time seeing past my upbringing in this particular matter. That and the swearing. It just seems like they are doing it just because they can. But then again, maybe it's just me...
That is not to say that I don't like the character or the series. I immensely enjoyed watching them and cannot wait to see more!
My wife, on the other hand, cannot stand these shows simply because she cannot understand a word anyone is saying, and because she just doesn't "get" british humor. Meh...her loss

Knocker - you didn't like the episode? I did! Okay, I knew where they were going with the final experiment, but it's still a bold move for the Daleks story wise. In fact, it pretty much changes their entire outlook and makes them more dangerous than ever. It's not the results of the experiment itself that makes them so dangerous now, it's the fact that they experimented at all with the one thing that means more to them than anything else in the universe - and dared to change it.
I also quite liked the characters. Okay, Solomon was a bit cliche (the dividing the loaf in half made me giggle) but still, an interesting depiction of a troubled leader. The kid was a bit gee wizz mister for me, but he was pretty much there to be Mr. Nice Guy in Danger. Same goes for Lazlo. As for Tallulah, I *love* Tallulah! C'mon, you have to have loved Tallulah!
About the only part that grated for me was the needlessly long reunion scene between Lazlo and Tallulah. "But who are you? But who are you? But who are you?" Seriously, you haven't figured it out by now??? Anyway, I let that slide since I enjoyed the dance scene so much. They're really throwing themselves into the production this year!
And we get a battle scene next week. Yay!

The Face of Bo said that The Doctor wasn't alone, and we've all taken that to mean the Master. And I won't be dissapointed if it is, even if the world and it's mother *has* guessed what's going on. Still, since everyone *has* guessed, and since we've seen a human becoming a Dalek, I'd love if they took it in an entirely different direction - if we saw some random human becoming a Time Lord.
I don't know how it would work - evolution or the Time Lord power drifting randomly about without a home and settling on a human - but it would be interesting to see The Doctor take a fledgeling Time Lord under his wing. It would also mean he'd be really emotionally invested in the new Time Lord without the writers having to make them a couple. Much more parent/child. I think it could be an interesting dynamic.

I think you may be watching the *actual* third season of the show from back in the sixties, not the third season of the new incarnation. I could be wrong, but nothing you've said so far sounds accurate.
