DANG ! I had written a sci-fi story about this. I have to think much further ahead or my stories will be quickly outdated.

Why not a bridge...then the Chinese can cross into Alaska, travel down through California, to settle in the fertile Yucaton Peninsula and invent cool stuff like calenders, human sacrifice, and Mel Gibson movies.

As I understand it building a bridge in the Bering straight would face as much if not more challenges as a tunnel because of the ice floes in the area.
