I'm pretty good with computer stuff so this is sort of embarrasing.
I clicked the 'custom' button on the edit profile thing, but nothing happened.
How do I do it?

There are a few ways to do it. First, get a picture you want as you avatar, then get a photobucket account, then, put the URL for the photo into the "Tag" section of your profile. Or, get HAKEN to put the photo of your choice into the avatar section.
those are the two ways I know of. I didn't have a custom photo, so I just went with a prearranged avatar.

That doesn't sound too bad, but are there any other ways?

Nope, that's how we do it. If you need someone to help you set up a custom avatar from a particular scene or screen shot there are usually a few friendly browncoats around willing to help. But then it's just basic html coding in your tag line.
Don't make faces.

Sorry, but this is wrong. The URL for the picture will post it anywhere else on the site, but to get it to appear in your tag you have to use the HTML code, which is provided by photobucket and other such image hosting sites.
Haken rarely gives out custom avas nowadays, if ever, so this is really the only way to go. Plus then you can change it whenever you please.
Oh, and make sure you have avatar set to 'none' or you'll have two show up.

If it's working it should show up in your profile after you edit.
Are you putting it in the space for tagline? I don't see anything in your tagline at all.![]()
