I know! Isn't it a wonderful feeling? You just know that you have a common interest, and your love for it is so strong that it overcomes any sense of propriety (and really, who needs that in the black? Unless you're showing respect - then it's okay) or formality or fear of an emotional connection with complete strangers (perhaps fear is the wrong word, but you understand).
I first "got it" at my first convention - a Lord of the Rings one that is now extinct - and I've been hooked ever since. That's why I'm proud of being a crazy fangirl (the GOOD kind), since I'm not afraid of hugging somebody just because they know the words to The Hero of Canton.
