What was your favourite X-Men movie and why?

X2, because it had a better grasp of the characters (for me, personally, it's always about the characters). X-Men is second-best. X3 was almost as painful as RotS.

They were entertaining and top marks to Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry and Hugh Jackman, they were good actors for their roles. Also a lot of the supporting actors did great jobs, you only see them for a few minutes but they portrayed the larger picture well.

But the heart of the X-men was ripped out, mauled, eaten, regurgitated, eaten again, pooped out then smeared on the silver screen.

Entertaining: yes (3rd movie: no)
True to story and characters: Not so much

It could have been far, FAR better.

Of the three, I liked the 1st. They boiled the conflict down to some piddling good Vs evil rather than the comentary of xenophobic human culture and society. Dark Phoenix plot was really messed with beyond recognition and there was so much more to the story of wolverine that making one movie to try and encompass it was foolhardy (like they tried to do in X-men 2)

There may be a 4th (the end of 3rd movie left that open) but if they approach it as they approached the others I sincerely hope not.

3 should have been 2 movies, and should have been done by Bryan Singer.
My personal favourite is the first.
great moment:
Rogue: "Does it hurt?.... when they come out?"
Logan: ".................................Everytime."

But I really love two moments from X2.
Magneto: "You are a god among insects, never let anyone tell you different."

and this scene (defines the whole X-men = mankind):
Nightcrawler: "They say you can imitate anybody? Even their voice?"
Mystique turns and speaks in his voice:
Mystique: "Even their voice."
Nightcrawler smiles
Nightcrawler: "So why not stay disguised all the time? You know.....Look like everybody else?"
Mystique: "Because we shouldn't have to."

You really think so? I thought a large portion of the first two movies was devoted to that, even if it wasn't as overt as it could have been.

I preferred X2, with the first being a close second. (Oh yeah, first scene in X-men rocked) I knew to lower my expectations for all the movies when they came out; being a 80s-early 90s CB reader. I think X2 brought out just enough characters to have good sub plots and enough action to balance out the film. All of the films seemed to follow the "God Loves, Man Kills" storyline from one of my favorite Graphic Novels. The first film lost out because I just didn't like the ending.

The scene in X2 where Magneto breaks out of his plastic shell was amazing.

X3 just had WAY too much going on. ...and some cure that immediately made mutants lose their powers. C'mon! Shoot 'em and blam, powerless. I didn't think the Jean related scenes were terrible however. I wanted to see maybe the Hellfire Club.

Did anyone else feel that throughout a lot of X3 you just knew they were on a huge production stage?

I agree with the following:

Dark Phoenix Saga should have been one movie.
Jean did look creepy cool.
Bryan should have stayed on to do the third.

So, I'm off to have drinks with Dazzler and Longshot. They're not too busy these days.

I loved X-3. Pheonix was amazing to behold ..
I never read the comics so I am not biased ,
but I imagine if I had I would be disappointed in the movies too.

And I agree with Kelkhil..Where's Gambit ???

I was so glad in X-2 to see Wolverine back to his old killing self. It was sort of weird in the 1st one when he didn't really kill anyone. Also, I am really glad that he left Stryker chained up and walked away at the end. If he'd let him out it would have been so un-Logan.
I agree that the story lines and real plots were really out of kilter and I really didn't like the underlying concept in 3 that Xavier had forced Storm to supress her powers as that seems so contrary to everything he is. He's all about mutants learning self control to be with people.
Anyway, still like 3 the best for 2 scenes. Logan and Jean in the med bay and the end when Logan kills Jean ( though not exactly comic accurate definitely emotionally accurate to the characters)

I loved X2, thought it was the best by far of the three in terms of plot and character.

The first one was good, but felt too rushed and under-baked (mainly due to their having to cut out chunks of the script at the last minute). 3 was the best looking of the 3, beacuse it had the biggest budget. But it also felt too rushed and not very well thought-out (a script written in a week, and a director hired 2 weeks before shooting can do that).

And I thought FF sucked.
