What was your favourite X-Men movie and why?

I just watched X3: The Last Stand last night again, and I think that's my fave; Jean was SO creepy lookin', and the action was just so grand...plus, I love tying up loose ends...(Also, they got Wolverine's powers right this time: no getting knocked out by a bullet nonsense)

I only ever saw BATMAN AND ROBIN once. It was when it first came out ten years ago, and I was only 11 at the time. It didn't occur to me then that I was watching arguably the worst comic book movie ever made and the self-destruction of a franchise.

I bring this up because nine years later, I saw X-MEN: THE LAST STAND. And after seeing that, I can now understand the betrayal people felt after seeing BATMAN AND ROBIN. That movie singlehandedly destroyed everything that Bryan Singer spent two movies building.

First of all, there were too many things going on at the same time. The mutant cure and the Dark Phoenix storylines should have been two separate movies. Characters were killed off randomly, the resolution of Rogue's arch throughout the whole trilogy was negated to an afterthought, huge glaring plotholes were apparent throughout the film, clunky and groan inducing one liners made up the majority of the script, characters began acting unlike themselves, and the whole thing seemed rushed and convoluted so that they can get to the next action sequence.

It was just painful, especially after the second movie, which to me is the best of the three. And the reason it's so perfect is that you can boil it down to one scene that's emblematic of everything X-Men is all about. It's the scene between Col. Stryker and Charles.

"You wanted me to cure your son. Mutation isn't a disease-"
"YOU'RE LYING!!!"

That one reaction says so much about the human race, which is ultimately what the X-Men is all about. Spider-Man is just about some kid growing up. X-Men is about the human race.

If the third movie had a moment like that, then I'd consider it. As of now, it's just a huge disappointment.

1st- cuz, in the end , no sequel can EVER surpass the origional (Unless it was PLANNED from the beggining, Jaws!). Third wasn't AS MUCH of a let down as I thought it would be... but, it still wa a let down. And, I agree... Jean goin' crazy and the Cure shoulda been two seperate flics.

That was a great moment, no doubt.
But the groaner in that flick was: "Have you ever tried not being a mutant?"

I feel you're being a bit harsh with 3, all of 'em had their moments...but what do I know- I loved The Fantastic Four as well.

The first one was the best to me. At least that one was a classic X-men vs. Brotherhood story. Some of it was still dumb, but at least the action made sense and the whole thing flowed fairly well.

In the second one I just never really cared. I didn't really see much threat there. The deck was stacked so heavily in the x-men/magneto group's favor that there was just no way they were going to be stopped from saving xavier. I would have liked it better if magneto had stayed and tried to defend the new cerebro camber and had a showdown with the x-men. As it was it was humans vs. mutants and basically just a joke of a battle. Only if the humans had some sentinels on their side would it have been a decent fight.

The third one was laughably bad. The characters were basically reduced to their powers and that's all that remained. Everything else was totally changed for the movie. They really did have a good premise going for them. The cure and a mutant so powerful that they couldn't be controlled are both great storylines, but they bungled the whole thing and it just played out terribly.

oh and they screwed up way too many stories. X3 pretty much killed ArchAngel (excuse the spelling if it's off) No 4 Horsemen now.

wrecked Iceman's image. I mean he wasn't the toughest or the coolest but 3 movies to finally suit up? Come on now!

From a non comic enthusiest I think they were pretty good action wise but I find it hard to block out images of what could have been

Objectively speaking, yeah, the first was the best, it had the most character going for it. But after the actionfest second, I just said to myself just enjoy the thing for what it is, so the third satisfyed me pretty well...

Fantastic Four didn't have any pretensions though - it was pure comic book, if there is such a thing ;)

X3, on the other hand, had absolutely no idea what it was trying to accomplish and consequently ended up a complete mess.

Edit: The first movie is my favourite. The first scene alone is worth buying the DVD for ;)
