New Theory Regarding the 'Verse'

I've been having a look at the Verse Map based on the one from the series over at SerenityStuff.com to see if I can make any sense of it and maybe get a clue.

As far as I can tell the planets are orbiting around nothing!?!? I can't make much sense of it.

All the maps I've seen are pretty much useless. The Serenity RPG map seems to indicate that there are more than one star in the 'Verse and at least one rogue planet (Angel) that's all by itself.

Another thing, if everybody is in the same system, then how everybody "forgot" Miranda? I assume that people are still using telescopes to navigate and there are tens of thousands of telescopes in use at any one moment. The only way to "hide" Miranda would be to have it in a marginal system where nobody goes that often.

Or call it a dead rock. Why go to a dead rock? One that can't support life?

After all, the Alliance is trusted by those with the means to explore. But, those that don't trust them are living hand to mouth. So, they aren't exactly in a place to go on flights of fancy.

Well there is mention of Nav Sats in Out of Gas. I suspect that there is a grid of Satellites that hold perhaps a fixed position in relation to the parent star that ships use to navigate a series of space lanes.

And I imagine that every astronomer knows of the existence of miranda, like everyone who studies a map can find this or that Island, but that doesn't mean they know it was a habitable planet.

You're going to need a telescope because radar is only good for close range stuff. And you're going to need a reflection spectra analyzer to tell you what any object in your sights is made out of.

Miranda has a breathable atmosphere and water. There are obvious high albedo signatures that scream glass and aluminum siding and open pit mining and other things. Also thirty million dead people should leave some chemical signatures for at least a decade.

Amateur astronomers can tell from Earth what's habitable or uninhabitable. Therefore, Miranda has to be stashed away somewhere where nobody visits much (this means that the Reavers might have teritory equal to our Solar system).
