as we all know well, mal and zoe fuaght with a passion againts the alliance when it was taking over. also the blue sun corporation that moved in to fill in the needs of everyone, at the price of thier rights. so are heroes dedicated themselves to fighting these massive super powers that controlled poeples lives, thoughts, clothing, food, drink, currency and buisiness, shouldn't we?
correct me if i'm wrong but i can queit a few large modern day corporations that act the same way as the alliance and the blue sun, in that they don't care about poeple or their lives or rights, only basic profit margen, such as: wall mart, fred meyer, target, sony, microsoft, FOX!(everyone hates them) nintendo, bandai, countless food and toy chains, macintosh, dozens or car companie ETC. ETC. so for the sake of the cause, we should, THE BROWNCOATS who support the great show/movie/comic most of all be doing more to fight the largest tyranical threat to human kind: corporate america.
for the sake of all browncoats: RISE GORRAMIT!

Alliance, yes. Blue Sun, no.

What right were taken away by them? Oh right, none.

Depends. Something large isn't necessarily evil (though there will certainly be corruption within). Arguably the world food program, among other UN projects, would be an example of something that is huge, but not evil.

Btw, you can't control people's thoughts. Not in general.

Sony? Nintendo? Bandai? Macintosh (perhaps you mean Apple?)?

I think you've gone to the bad place. Perhaps there's a prescription that needs filling?

Sig analyzed your post more thoroughly than I have, but I too am at a loss to think of anything Mal and Zoe did to "fight" Blue Sun. Rather, I got the sense they weren't even aware of how pervasive it was as a corporation. (Were any of the characters really, besides River and maybe Simon?)

Don't make faces.

No personal attacks here, please. Yeah, there is an explicitly political side to Firefly. The corporate takeover of elected governments is a process that is well underway, and it's been a science fiction staple all the way back to The Cold Equations (1954).

Well, if it wasn't for Microsoft or Apple, you wouldn't even be able to post the message you posted. If it wasn't for Fox, Firefly wouldn't exist. And if it weren't for food companies...um.....we'd all be dead. LOL!

Yeah, companies are only interested in money for the most part. But, those same companies employ a lot of people. They give people their livlyhood. My grandfather went to work for Coca-Cola right out of school, and he retired with them. He says, to this day, that Coca-Cola is a great company to work for and he was always treated well. If I remember right, in the commentary on Serenity, (the show, not the movie) Joss said Blue Sun was kind of based on Coca-Cola. Coke's not evil. It's just HUGE!

Plus, you have to think about all the charities and donations that the big companies give to. I don't see them as controling us. In the real world, they're helping. If they weren't, they'd go bankrupt, cause people would stop buying there products.

Yes, there are some companies out there that some people may consider "evil", like tobacco companies. But in the real world, companies provide goods and services to people. If they didn't, they would go under.

The Aliance and Blue Sun were fictional evil entities. Heck, the Aliance wasn't even evil. They were just different from Mal and the crew.

Corporations are important because they provide efficiencies of scale, allowing improvements in our collective standard of living. They aren't inherently evil or good. They provide the organization needed to coordinate thousands of people's work to accomplish tasks.

However, have you watched "The Corporation" ? It's a bit of an eye-opener and compares the psychological profile of a psychopath to the attributes of a corporation. The basic problem with the corporate structure is that it hasn't been given the motivations to direct it's actions toward the common good. Their primary motivation is to return a profit to their shareholders, the people who provided the capital to create them. That's why we need governments to provide regulation and laws so that profit isn't the only motivation, at the expense of the environment, human rights, etc.

first of all the reason i say they faught the the blue sun is becuase the blue sun is the alliance big buddie. they greatly support and recieve support from the alliance. the blue sun tests on human subjects. if thats not violation of rights then what the gorram hell is? and ofcourse not everything big is evil. and as for some of the corporations i listed haven't done horrid things but they i mentioned them becuase they too only pretend to care about you. and please, i own a computer, a playstation 1, a wii and a DS, i don't reject anything big, but several of are largest corporations that browncoats shop at and support annex, harm and destroy the homes and lives of inocent poeple in the quest for the almighty dollar.
i think to call yourself a browncoat and then ignore this by directing anyone who brings it up to the sych ward, is hypocraitical. at best. and keep in mind while replying, i didn't say all of them.

and yes to TRAILRUNNERMARK, i agree that with out corporations we would have thousands out of work and no proper way to organise trade to all the small buisinesses to get suffeseint supplies to everyone, but many of the things they DO in that quest is what needs to be stopped. i have seen the corporation, and WAL MART: the high cost of low price, and read dozens of forums and books about the harmfull actions of corporations. so wasn't mal supporting rights and freedom when he went to battle with alliance? i ask you again, shouldn't we be supporting rights and freedom?
