Like I said, I don’t know where it comes from. I don’t have that same perception of Ireland, and the two societies are pretty similar. It’s an aesthetic thing.

i very much doubt that Britain will change its draconian drug laws anytime soon ,even overhauling the current system of classification probably won`t happen for quite some time yet ,just look what happened when cannabis (marijuana and all derivitives thereof)was reclassified as a class `c` drug ,there was an immediate media furor ,including the classic story from the early 70`s that `newer much stronger strains are now being developed`;i can`t honestly believe that this is still printed ...hogwash where do you think all the `haze` varieties lieate from?.
if reclassification does go ahead we can all expect horror stories ranging from mushrooms made my son go mad ,i slept for 10 weeks because of ketamine ,i broke my back jumping from a roof whilst high on l.s.d. all total bollocks .its about time some much needed common sense was brought into play over this issue but then America`s drug policy is the model for the British system and all the time the bush administartion are in power there will be no more common sense there will be no more partying hard dudes ..there will be no more mind expansivenession (thats a dubyaism for ya )there will be no creativity booms amongst the generations to come instead there will be sick violent minded criminals roaming free to terrorise our communities searching for the money for their next fix ...sorry i digressed there ..anyway the blair cabinet have no plans to re-classify diddly squit except their paypackets

Bob Barr Flip-Flops on Pot

Bob Barr, who as a Georgia congressman authored a successful amendment that blocked D.C. from implementing a medical marijuana initiative, has switched sides and become a lobbyist for the Marijuana Policy Project.

But that doesn’t mean he has become a bong-ripping hippie. He isn’t pro-drug, he said, just against government intrusion.

“I, over the years, have taken a very strong stand on drug issues, but in light of the tremendous growth of government power since 9/11, it has forced me and other conservatives to go back and take a renewed look at how big and powerful we want the government to be in people’s lives,” Barr said.

Aaron Houston, the project’s government relations director, said Barr brings a “great deal of credibility, particularly among people on the Republican side of the aisle.”

“He certainly would not have been the first person I would have expected to sign off to us, but I’m very pleased that he has,” Houston said. “I’m very pleased that he has come around, and I hope he serves as an example to his former colleagues.”

Ironically, Barr said he will help lead the fight to give District residents a say on whether to allow medical marijuana — the very thing the “Barr Amendment” denied them in 1998. He will lobby for the rights of states to set their own medical marijuana policy without federal interference.

The four-term former Republican congressman will also work to unplug a youth anti-drug campaign which a recent study showed actually increased the likelihood that all teens would smoke pot.
