Theory: Firefly Theme Song NOT in movie

The theme will certainly be modified and extended for the movie- the 50 second bit isn't going to cut it. And when have you seen a movie based on a show where it's had the exact same theme? Plus the fact that Joss has said in one of those press releases that the movie's being called Serenity to give it some distance from the show, which means that it's possible that the show's theme won't be the main theme at all.

And if the show were to come back after the movie, I'm guessing it would A) be called Serenity, and B) the theme would be at the very least redone in a slightly different style.

Question is what style of music will they use for the opening theme and if it has words who will sing them? I have nightmares about the latest 'in' group singing a 'pop' song.

The movie will open with the aftermath of the battle of Serenity, just as the last of the browncoats are finally being picked up by Alliance transports.

The song will be sung around a fire a cappella by wounded soldiers as the Allience rolls in.

As the highest ranking surviving resistance fighter, Mal is brought in for interogation. As he is heared onto a ship, fairly well broken, we see Mal walk by a commanding Alliance officer without really look at him. But we, the audience, will get a good look at the officer.

It is Book.

Cut to a reaction shot of Book as the camera pans back to survay the utter devestation and suffering of the remaining soldiers.

Roll opening credits with full version of song. As the credits roll, we will see a montage of clips from the TV show that will catch eveyone up to date with our story thus far so that even those who have not seen the show will be able to launch right into the mocie fully up tp speed.

I think 'Tash is right. I think we will get some western style instrumental when the movie opens. I do believe that we might see Sonny Rhoades in make up as an old man on a porch singing a version of the song when the cast wander past as TalonPest mentioned.

I fully hope that Joss will put the original version on as the credits roll at the end, as a tribute to all and to lead into the TV series.

I suppose it would depend on what the composer and director decide upon. They may want the main theme but in an orchestral setting, or something smaller and more intimate...it'll be neat to see what they do though

Universal owns USA and Sci-Fi Channel. Sci-Fi has been doing a lot of original films lately, but these are filmed in Europe. Stargate which is going into it's 8th season is produced in Canada and has a new spinoff series that will be on Sci-Fi this summer. And now Battlestar Galactica will also have a short series on Sci-Fi... if it gets good ratings that show could go into full length series production.

Universal also produced the Hercules and Xena shows that ran in syndication and were very successful, but again those were produced in NZ were it cost less than in California.

So the key thing for us browncoats is to make the Movie as successful as we can and Universal can put it on Sci-Fi, or in syndication. But hopefully they can do it so they won't have to move production out of the country. Otherwise all those planets are gonna look very Pacific-Northwest.

Well. . .

No matter at what point during the movie the song is played through the speakers, I can almost guarantee one thing. . .

every browncoat in the theatre will stand and sing along. . .not boisterous and obnoxious, but very respectfully, paying homage. Hell. . .we might even put our hands over our hearts.
