Thanks Haken for all that you are doing to keep our ship in the sky. Your the Kaylee of FFF.

Not that I think you're a girl or anything...it's just that you fix stuff and...I'll shut up now.

Bumping again because I can.

Folks over at the 76th site got the word out almost immediately.

It's an incestuous little 'verse, but it's ours!

Solan, et al:

Fireflyfan.net is not a 'mirror site'. It's just a co-registered human-rememorable domain name, along with Fireflyfans.net, for the numeric Uniform Resource Locator (URL) of the server on which the site resides (lots of leetle files in a directory tree, just like on your computer's hard drive).

Specifically, Fireflyfan(s).net's numeric URL is 168.215.229.9, to which both domain 'names' are registered.

But rather than typing (or bookmarking) the domain name, one can always just use the numeric URL (i.e., http://168.215.229.9, or http://168.215.229.9/threadlist.asp?b=2, to get directly to the GenDis threadlist) and then bookmark that page (or set it as your homepage, as I have done for the past 3 years). Then just use that bookmark to get to the site.

Point is, one should not confuse a secondary domain name registration as a 'mirror', cuz it ain't. If fireflyfan(s)' server goes down, we're OoG 'til they get it fixed...

Explanatorily,

zoid

P.S.
I, of course, have tattooed my HOSTS file with "168.215.229.9 fireflyfans.net"; but there's one potential snag with this workaround. If -- at some later date -- Haken decides to move the site to another web provider's server(s), then the numeric URL will change. The site itself will still be usable to people who enter " www.fireflyfans.net", because Haken will transfer that domain name to the numeric URL.

The funny part will be that those who've tattooed their HOSTS file as I have, will have to (subliminal) remember to delete that line (and send Haken a check) (/subliminal), or else be unable to connect to the new site. That line tells my computer, "Every time I enter www.fireflyfans.net into my web browser, go to numeric URL 168.215.229.9." Which will no longer be hosting the leetle files that make up FFFn.

So, that'll be fun, when the time comes...
