I've generally liked most ST versions. And I'm a fan of Scott Bakula, going back to Quantum Leap. But every time I try to watch these shows.....I'm bored. What the heck am I missing ? I've tried to get interested in the characters, the plot of the show, the time line..but nothing seems to work.
Is there no hope ?
People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

When the series first aired, and was brand new, I was riveted to the TV. I did not necessarily like the way the show went, and was not incredibly suprised by it's cancellation, but it was in the ST 'Verse (I know, debateable) so I watched it intently.
But now, I cannot sit and watch it either. When they first promo'ed it comming to SciFi, I thought, "Great! Something to fill the gap between Stargate: SG-1 and Heroes!" But every time I try to settle in to watch it, I get bored and then go log onto EQ2.

I did enjoy it, but then, it was better in my eyes than most other shows on during its airing. I can tell you that it gets better after the first season and a half. If you still aren't interested(as most Kirk, Picard fans weren't) you'll never get into it.

Because, as far as ST goes, it sucks.
The holier than thou attitude has been taken to the extreme, and when there are character "flaws" they are so over-done. Actors are as a whole competent, but generally speaking not overly so and the scripts are often a huge let-down. I have watched a few episodes and I have seen worse Sci-Fi, but rarely. Not to mention the weird inconsistancies between Enterprise and the Original ST series.
It lacks the feeling of the original and it's without the skill and well-finished appeal of the other ST series.
And the theme music is crap.
I will think of a signature later. It will be so stunningly brilliant your entire life will pale into insignificance when compared to the few words that will be written here.

I agree, I've been a ST fan from day one,....I did the letter writting to get it back and the one to get the shuttle named Enterprise. They did NOT stick to the formula that Roddenberry devised, and IT SUCKED....I tried and tried, the ship was pathetic,..and charactors were weak. I don't mean to piss anybody off,....just MHO.
Please forgive me if I upset anyone.![]()

The only hope I know is the following :
1) Stop watching it on Sci Fi Channel.....they do manage to squeeze in the actual show somewhere in between their program of commercials.
2) Forget Seasons 1,2 & 4...ONLY SEASON 3 is worthy of your time...I love Season 3...it's original, exciting, and all episodes are part of a season-long mission.

Ever figure out what it was about S3 that they did different, and why they didn't stick w/ that mojo ? Was it new writers ? New characters ? New plot ?

New plot.
S1 and S2 were mostly stand-alones, with no more than the usual ties to continuity (recurring guest characters, ongoing character development, etc).
S3 was a season-long mega arc, chronicling the Xindi War. We also saw a guest appearance from the Enterprise-J of a (possible) future.
S4 was a mix of the two; a lot of two and three-part stories, with a few scattered stand-alones. S4 was also when they brought in Manny Coto to share his mediocre fanfic (it started falling into the "Smallville" trap of seeing how many gratuitous references to future events you could bludgeon the viewers with in a single ep).

Thats ok- You were not the only one. And i gave it two YEARS! There was no character development, the "revision" of the Vulcans just plain sucked and well there was no story!
I am dissapointed!

I have the exact opposite opinion: I HATED season 3. The whole season revolved around an incident(the killing of millions of people on Earth) and a race of people (The Zindi) that in 35 years had NEVER been mentioned before. I think it would have been better if the war had been with the Romulans or Klingons who we know Starfleet fought at some point. From the first ads for the show it was supposed to bridge the gap between Star Trek: First Contact to the original series. It didn't really start doing that till the 4th season with the Vulcans and Tpau, Data's however-many-great grandfather and the Eugenics race, and the formation of the Federation in what had to be the worst Star Trek series finale EVER.
