Not impressed at all with the TVTally site. Yes, Firefly tops the show lists and that is certainly good.
But the "episode" list is just an average rating of the 1-to-10-style of votes that people give each episode. I contacted TVTally with suggestions for improving their episode ranking, but even though they had prompted me for suggestions in detail, they chose to ignore my suggestions. They don't appear to be very good at math. As a result - all of the episodes in their top 25 list have nearly the same number of points. It'll then boil down to only fractions of a point difference between their episodes.
Plus they appear to round to the nearest 1/100th point and then list alphabetically after that. Pffft.
Here is part of their list:
Objects in Space Firefly 8.74/368
Family Jewels Las Vegas 8.71/7
Albatross Law&Order: 8.71/7
Friends&Lovers NCIS 8.71/7
Once More, With Feeling
Buffy the Vampire Slayer 8.66/454
Family Jewels had 6 votes at "10", and was in first place. All it took was a vote of "1" to put it in 2nd place. The Buffy episode has had 450+ votes, but is behind a group of 7 vote episodes.
That is almost a useless poll. But TVTally doesn't realize that all of the episodes will pop to the top quickly as six people give it a "10" then all settle down to 8.71.
(I'm still casting votes for "show", but "episode" is a waste.)

The episode voting on tvtally is problematic. (I started a thread in their forum about it)
A major problem is the people voting negatively - check out farscapes episodes. I, personally, 10'd all the unranked episodes, just to test my theory, and a few hours later, someone had com along and 1'd them all.
Unfair, and it happens to anything that rises above Firefly/Buffy.
I mean, most if not all Firefly eps should have a perfect 10, no?
So who gave less than 10? Not any of us, surely?

Something else I noticed is that the TV Tally episode ranking only lists the top episode of each show. At one time Firefly had the top 8 or 9 spots.Now it's only Objects in Space(which I just downloaded from iTunes. My loaner isn't back yet).

My guess is that they made a change to only allow one show's episode per spot. That was a stop-gap measure. They also don't count shows until they get 6 votes.
Soon all of the shows on the list will have a score of about 8.71. OiS is at 8.74, but will get a few more "1" votes.
Show X gets 5 "10" votes, but does not appear until the 6th vote (likely a "10"). Then it has a score of 10/6. Next it gets a "1" vote and then has a score of 8.71. It'll get more "10"s and more "1"s and like all of the other episodes will settle at 8.71.
