Ok...let's see...my top 5 Bond films are:

1) Casino Royale
Bond is back...Bond is brutal...Bond is on the hunt

To me, this is the top Bond film because other than the tweaks to get the story into the 21st century character wise, this is Fleming at its core. Bond's cold, dangerous and a righteous force when pissed off. Can't wait for Bond 22

2) From Russia With Love
It's Connery's second Bond outing, but this is where the foundations are truly made for the series. Variety of exotic locales, lovely ladies and dangerous spy craft all mixed into one pot. While I love the Bond films one and all, a film where Bond's gadgets are all defensive and 007 offs the main henchman with his own garrotte wire-equipped watch? Definitely gotta give it high marks

3) On Her Majesty's Secret Service
People like to dump on George Lazenby because he he only did one Bond film and that he was a male model before getting the job. I would point out he was an ex-Aussie Special Forces soldier and that he had the hardest job, acting-wise, till Daniel Craig did Casino Royale: making Bond seem sympathetic when his wife is ruthlessly gunned down on their wedding day basically in front of his own eyes. That and his Bond managed to whoop ass with only his wits, training and ability to make allies with the most unlikely of people (his father-in-law was an Italian gangster, for Christ's sake!)

4) GoldenEye
Let it be known that I loved Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. Thought he was #2 behind Connery for doing the super spy up right on celluloid. Basically saw every one of his Bond films in theatres. But the plots were generally stuck in the bombast of the 1960s and 1970s, with all kinds of crazy stunts and maniacal villains, other than The World Is Not Enough and to a lesser extent, this film.

What really sells this film for me is that it recognizes Bond is a product of a different generation of political conflict and deals with the issue of good guys going bad with the character of Alec Trevelyan. Gotta admit though the idea that the former 006's parents with pro-Nazi Lienz Cossacks was rather stupid (uh...Sean Bean was a little too young to have memories of WWII, and there's no friggin' way MI-6 would hire the son of Lienz Cossacks to be a 00-level operative!)

4) The World Is Not Enough
Like I said...loved Brosnan as Bond and I thought this film, while bombastic with some of the stunts, definitely dealt with a current generation problem of terrorists potentially sabotaging oil pipelines to disrupt Western economics in a way that favoured the people behind the attacks, and obtaining nuclear weapons from former Soviet republics. That and its status as the first time we get to see a female villian and the first time a Bond Girl actually gets ed by Bond himself in cold blood. Definitely a majorly dramatic moment

But yeah...I am willing to see and read other's arguments for their favourite Bond flicks on top of what has been posted as of this moment

I like your list, but personally, I place Tomorrow Never Dies just above TWINE. Even though I like Pierce's acting better in TWINE, the overall pace and story (Not to mention Bond Girl- the most capable ever) of TND make me love it!!!

Yeah...Michelle Yeoh's Wai Lin was definitely the most capable Bond Girl in the series history, but it's kinda unfair to compare her to other Bond Girls. She's a respected Asian actress AND she's a skilled martial artist after films like Supercop 2 and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

My main complaint with Tomorrow Never Dies is that the baddie, much as I respect Jonathan Pryce as an actor, was a bit underwhelming. A William Randolph Hearst-wannabe with a grudge against Britain and China over Hong Kong? Not quite up there in the ranks of megalomaniac villains like Blofeld or Goldfinger

Jill St John is my favorite Bond Girl but they are all very beautiful. In Thunderball Raquel Welch was cast as Domino but a another studio needed her. Go to JamesBondOdessy.com for more cool trivia. This is a hard list for myself being a huge Bond fan. George Lazenby not so much.
