Just had a thought that is interesting (perhaps only to me...).

The core worlds unified under the alliance. Sounds, at first blush, like they are all of like mind. In Firefly there have been words that support this - I don't remember the quotes, but the gist is that everybody in the alliance happily cooperates.

In the U.S. the left coast was the "north" and the "south". Today the left coast is "unified". From the time shortly after the end of the civil war to now that didn't set well with a lot of people. The farther back that you go towards the end of the civil war, the stronger these feelings.

So there would likely be those on core worlds that, after the unification, resent the unification. Much like taking a deep south state and a northern state and forcing them together.

I wonder if this would have been a potential plot point for Firefly. Could Mal have eventually sparked a large-scale conflict between two happy core worlds?

I'd probably set up home on Ariel, I'd like to say the rim, or my own ship dodging the law but at the end of the day I have to accept I'm just not that much of a rebel, I guess that's why I like to watch it on TV.

I've always lived in the city so maybe I can do well in Ariel. And probably end up working for the Alliance in some capacity.

Actually if I was gonna live in one of the fancy worlds, I would want to live on Bellerophon. You wouldn't have to have the city atmosphere and you'd get to live on a floating island!

I've lived in urban, suburban, and rural settings, and at both ends of the US.
Been on the Left Coast within sniffing distance of the sea for a long time now. Getting a little crowded along my section of beach...
Would likely find a niche anywhere in the 'Verse but sure would like to do some cruising around.
Should probably be crew on a ship but get leave to visit my family on a Whitefall-ish world where the terrain is familiar and the people are fairly far apart.
Independent as a hog on ice, as they say...

I'm surprised nobody's said Boros, seems like a nice enough place. Now I'm gonna totally contradict myself and say Jaingyin but think about it: Cows, Wooden "Swans", Dancing... and who wouldn't want to steal Simon?

Y'all should know that Jiangyin is nice as
long as you stay out of the hills. Check in
with the cops when you land and they'll tell
you what's safe.

Santho is not all like that bar where they
have the U-Day brawl. That place is out in
a sort of civil aviation port/hangout. Down
at lower elevations where there's more water
it's greener and there are cattle and vineyards.
