Barbaro, the colt that broke his leg during last year's Preakness, had to be euthanized yesterday. His condition reached the point where there was no option to continue.
Now, OK, a horse breaks his leg, you shoot him-- old folk wisdom.
But the good folks, the owners and vets, tried everything they could think of, used every bit of knowledge and technique they knew. And HE tried , too. That horse wanted to live.
And a lot of hoped he'd make it, in spite of the odds against him.
I feel a little like Mal after the Battle of Serenity Valley...
