I loved Angel through Season 3. After that it did what all great shows do when they start winding down..It "Jumped the Shark", with the whole Connor thing and then Cordelia sleeping with Connor and a whole season of wasted storyline. Kinda similar to Dallas with the whole Bobby's death was all just a dream sequence, because noone remembers that Connor even existed. I think it's probably a good thing that it is coming to an end. I get the feeling they are running out of ideas on where to take the show. I mean how many times can they use the same ideas. A good example would be Cordelia being possessed by an "Evil" goddess(basically) and then dying and now we have Fred dying and her body being possessed by an "Evil" Goddess.
Then they had to make Gunn smart, because he just wasn't cutting it as a thug, and how could they rationalize Fred and Gunn's relationship, when Fred was much more cerebral then he was.

I think this one is best left..going out as close to the top as it possibly could. Personally..I'd rather see Joss and company spend all their resources making sure Firefly does well at the box-office, so that there is a possibility of it making a series return, rather then beating a horse that's as close to dead as dead can be hehe.
