Another Trekkie here. That woman was crazy, plain and simple. Sure there are lots of Trekkies who hate each other and lots that hate Star Wars. I'm a fan of scifi and like all ST and definitely the original star wars as well as many other scifi shows and movies. I try to stay out of the fandom wars, I think they're kinda silly, I mean c'mon, to each is own, go your own way people. Firefly is far and away my favorite though and above all other fandom's I would cliam my loyality to be with the Browncoats.

However, once I did something kind of similiar to what the women did, but less confrontational and crazy, and probably something a lot of scifi fans would agree with. Last year I was eating lunch in my dorm's cafeteria and talking to this guy that I'd seen some of my other metalhead, scifi, computer geek friends hanging out with. We were talking about how much we both loved Star Wars when I realized he hadn't seen the originals. I asked him about it and he said he tried to watch them but thought they were boring and said he loved the new ones. I finished quickly and told all of my friends that night at dinner and none of us ever talked to him again. However, I didn't hate him or give him vindictive glares or allow my opinion of him to transfer to innocent and adorable animals.

Besides that, I'm a pretty easy going guy that gets along with just about everybody. Don't let that women get ya down, some people are just wierd.

I never could understand why fans of one show resent fans of other shows. It's not like you only get one choice. I love a lot of things, for varying reasons... ST, SW (originals, anyway), LotR books and movies, the Harry Potter books and movies, the Narnia books and movie, Watership Down, Sherlock Holmes, Alice In Wonderland, and a whole lot of (other) science fiction. The list goes on and on.

Just because Firefly happens to be at the top of the list doesn't mean I don't like the other things, or wish them (or their devoted fans) ill.

Yeah this seems like a very strange incident...why would a person be mean just because of a show you like? I mean I suppose it's possible that she's really jealous that our show is a bazillion times more awesome than her's, but still, that's no reason to act like a jerk.

Love keeps her in the air when she outta fall down, tells you she's hurting before she keels. Makes her a home.

I agree with this statement BIGTIME. Ever since Firefly I have not been able to look the same way at Star Trek. Enterprise was on Sci-Fi this past Monday all evening...and I enjoyed that show back when it was on but I could not sit down and watch it straight through. Same with TNG...

Just does not cut the mustard since fall 2002.

I think this is also an isolated incident. Either she's a fan who takes her fandom way too seriously to the point of chastizing other fandoms, or maybe she was just having a bad day. She was at the vet. Maybe her cat or dog was sick or had to be put down, and was having a hard time dealing with the loss of a pet, and maybe just seeing a diehard fan of another fandom was enough to send them over the edge. Kind of like Randal and the Rings geek in CLERKS 2. "There's only one 'Return' OK, and it ain't of the king, it's of the Jedi!"

I wouldn't take it too seriously.

Bu there is one thing that bugs me. I always hated the idea that the Alliance is supposed to be a stand in for the Federation and that no one can see TREK again after FIREFLY because they now see the Enterprise as a conqueror of planets and a fascist regime. May I remind you that the opening narration of the original series clearly states that their mission is "to explore strange new worlds. To seek out new life forms and new civilizations. To boldly go where no man has gone before." Nowhere does it say "and conform them to our way of life." And the Prime Directive, even though it's been bent and broken a few times along the way, is there to insure that the Federation doesn't interfere with the development of new worlds and people.

If the Alliance is like any group of people in the TREK verse, it's the Borg. Remember? "We are the Borg. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile." The Alliance hides that and puts it nicely, but the message is the same. If you want to compare the Alliance to anything in the TREK verse, it's that.

They're just jealous of a REAL spaceship...

...and a cute mechanic...

...and a beautiful companion...

...and a handsome captain (with hair!)...

...and a warrior woman...

...and a sensitive pilot...

...and a brave merc...

...and a young dashing doctor...

...and a man of God...

...and a cute, troubled ragamuffin!

Clowns to the left of me… ...Jokers to the right...

Oh no, the Alliance believes themselves to be enlightened, bringing health and order to everyone...
remember that they let our heroes go in the pilot episode because they thought their priority was to help the vessle that was in distress....
The Allance is not evil, that is what is so insidious, they want to do good...
for everyone

like missionaries relieving heathens of their pagan beliefs and bringing them to the 'truth' of their religion.
Like anyone who knows how other people should live.

Now, don't get me wrong:
I love Trek, all of them (I've been rewatching a lot of Deep Space 9 and Voyager lately), but they do live in VERY clean enviornments, filled with people who all dress alike and talk alike and think alike....
So as much as I love the Trek world?
I think I agree more w/Joss' view of people who want to be non-conformist, who wish to live on the edge of society instead of being like everyone else.

Hardcore Trekers are nutters at the best of times.

But we gotta teach her a lesson for scowling at you twice. So I say we all get together at Monksdads house. Once there we all then start cutting on our own faces, slice of our lips and ears etc, stick bits of wire and metal through whats left of our faces-I mean we just go plain crazy you know whatever works. Then we make our way through Monksdads neighbours houses shrieking like banshees! raping and killing as we go and then we take their cars, and we smash them up good on the outside, tear off bits of the body wherever we can that doesnt cause a hull breach or something and we bathe the cars in their blood.

Then we can make our way over to the vets office brandishing our make shift swords and make the nurse tell us where the Trekker lives, after which we eat her and anyone else present and all the cats but not the dogs-who doesnt love dogs. Then we make our way to the Trekkers house eating, raping and killing everyone along the way (not kids though we not pyschos after all) And once we get to the Trekers house, thats when we really go Mental!! Completely and utter monkeysh*t .............I say we pee all over her house, like everywhere her carpets, her curtains all over her clothes-she'll never be rid of the smell.......and ahh.. and then after that we pee on her...ya ..and .ah.. and we finish her off by giving her a stern telling off, there may even be swearing Then its back to Monksdad for tea(coffee if you prefer) , beer and nibbles-assuming of course we arent full after eating all those people.
