Ok, so me and my kid are at the Vet’s office getting my new puppy “River” her booster shots. She gets the shots and I’m at the front counter paying. This lady is up there as well dropping off a poop sample presumably for her dog. She tells me what a beautiful kid I have and that I have the cutest puppy she has ever seen. I say thank you, she then asks me what the dogs name is. I of course tell her its “River”, She then gives me a weird look. So then the Vet nurse lady working the counter asks me why I named my dog after River Phoenix. I then tell her that The dog is named after River Tam from my favorite TVshow/Movie Firefly/Serenity. Just then the lady who had just told me what a beautiful kid and the cutest dog she had ever scene in her life shoots me a horrible mean glare. She then yells at my dog for sniffing at her feet..... I didn’t know what to make of it, perhaps the woman is Bi-polar or something... Anyway the woman leaves the vets office and goes and sits in her truck outside. The Vet nurse lady then tells me that the lady is a bitch and I agree with her... so we finish paying for the shots and go outside, the woman is still in her truck. Thats when I notice something... Her Truck is outfitted with vinyl decals to make it look like the Star Ship Enterprise. Even has NCC-1701 on the door and everything, I guess the lady is a hard core trekky. So anyway I make eye contact with her and she shoots me another glare puts her truck in gear and backs out. she then starts to pull out of the parking lot and stops behind my truck to presumably check out my window stickers (Serenity, FFF.net, Browncoat on board, and a blue sun sticker,). She then shakes her head at me and tears out of the parking lot. Now my question to other browncoats out there. Do Trekkys hate us? Because I am somewhat a trek fan myself, A Browncoat for sure but i do enjoy STtNG. I just wonder if this lady was crazy or does she just hate browncoats. It was obvious she knows the scifi genre and anyone who outfits there car like the enterprise probably goes to conventions and what not so I will ask again since I have only attended a handful of scifi co

to finish what I wrote before.....
I will ask again since I have only attended a handful of scifi conventions. Do Trekkys hate Browncoats as a rule or was this an isolated incident.....

I think it was an isolated incident... at least, I hope it was...
I was a trekky long before Firefly came around, and I still watch TNG/DS9/Voyager whenever they come on SpikeTV, but if you were to ask me directly which I liked more... well, I'd have to slip on my brown coat.
Maybe she was just bi-polar or something.

Probably and isolated incident. I am something of a treky my self and also love firefly/serenity, as do most of the other trekies I know, so I would say that that woman was just strange.

Trekkies are os st fans with Kirk. Trekkers are next gen. fans. The dislike is between themselves. The war is between Star Wars fans and Trek fans. Browncoat fans are to small to worry about, yet. She was a fed working to get River in her truck.

Hopefully an isolated incident; Trekkies don't usually hate anything except. . . well, Star Trek.

It's very hard to watch any Star Trek anymore after becoming a Browncoat.
I think if I ever hear again the terms :
starboard nacells
venting plasma
phase coupler inducers
I'd have to commit hari-kiri.
Also....thank God all the Enterprises had a big deflector dish on them!!!...whew!...that puppy seemed to be the answer to every problem they ever had....all ya ever had to do was emit a pulse thru it..any 'ole pulse...tachyon, plasma, the dreaded inverse-tachyon, etc etc etc....gee I'm gonna be sick now.

Sorry to hear about that! And to think that Star Trek universe is about tolerance and getting along with others.
I also hope that it's an isolated incident.
I was (or still am?) a big Trek fan but after discovering the 'verse of Firefly, I've become a browncoat through and through.

Actually the two fandoms had a link up and did mutual support for the campaigns for Enterprise to get a fourth season and for there to be a Firefly movie.
I suspect you encountered someone who probably knows every Star Trek episode by heart but doesn't understand the message behind any of it.

I think that some trek fans may have resented Firefly because the latter was seen as the 'anti-trek'...where
the Alliance = The Federation,
personally I felt that the sanitized world of shiny happy people on Star Trek seemed kind of creepy and horrible after thinking about how much I would hate living in a world where they have managed to solve all human problems, and are now on a mission to go out to strange new worlds to solve all their problems too.
Also Enterprise was getting cancelled and wasn't getting a movie made (not like Firefly got Serenity made)....
A lot of Star Wars fans resented Firefly too because of the whole 'Joss is my Master now' thing, where people online were saying Lucas had had it and Joss was the new voice of sci-fi.
The X-files fans were mixed, I think some were worried he would 'ruin' the X-files (and Joss did shake things up a lot!) but compared to the last movie, I think most of those fans feel that Joss has been good for the franchise.
luckily the fanatic freaks are rarities...
everyone I know who loves sci-fi has fallen in love with Firefly/Serenity.
