Open ended question about The Operative

I have looked around a bit for a topic pertaining to this but didn't see one so apologies if it has been broached before.

Where do you see The Operative being post "Serenity." Obviously he mucked up his job of killing River and keeping her secret from being public knowledge. What do you all think happened to him? Did the Alliance try to assassinate him? Did he "opt for early retirement" to some Alliance tropical rest home or just get demoted to garbage picker? Is he in hiding as a florist on some backwater moon so the Alliance doesn't find him? Let me hear your opinions, serious or otherwise.

Well I have 2 opinions on that .

1st - I think when he left Mal I would almost bet that he Fell on his Sword. His realism that the Alliance was evil made him too much of a monster and he did the only honorable option.

2nd - (least likely)- I think he might go after key heads of Parliment and "make the world a better place".

Well the way I saw the movie, the operative's life was shadowing Book's life, that's the way I saw it. So I think the operative will find something else to place his faith or his belief in. It may not be religion that he chooses to place this faith in as Book did, but I see that as how it would go from there.

His response to Mal's veiled threat
"I'd like to kill you myself I see you again"

and the Operative says
"Oh, you won't."

makes me assume that yes, he killed himself on Mr. Universe's planet, as that is the only honorable option. He has no place in society (his own words) and he knows "the Alliance knows I'm no longer their man."

Yep. He's deader than a doornail.

With much respect to other opinions, I don't see him killing himself at all.

I think he disappeared to settle on some remote world, far away from the Alliance, to take up cattle ranching, or something "normal".

I don't think that the revelation of what happenned on Miranda should have "shatterred" his belief system in the Alliance all that much....I mean he had been killing nice innocent folks for God knows how long, and the Alliance scientists killed alot of folks too...I think he just got tired of killing, any killing...maybe like Roy Batty did in Blade Runner, or Jules in Pulp Fiction, and maybe like Book did.

Except tha the said to Mal that the Allience knew that he was no longer their man. If there was no issue with Miranda I do not believe that he would have let them go.

He believed that he was a monster for the greater good. After the Miranda Vid, I think he realized that he had become a monster for and even larger Monster.

See this would make a great spin-off TV series i'm thinking.

Plot:
An Operative of the Alliance, belief system shattered, moves on to do the one other thing in his life seem full. Gourmet chef. He buys a restaurant and he and his staff get into all kinds of wacky situations. Not to mention his next door neighbor is a gorgeous girl whom is also a Browncoat.

While it's entirely possible he performed Hari Kari... I prefer to think of a more positive future for the Operative.

Anybody remember "Kung Fu", with David Carradine? While the histories of the characters are very different, I think the outcome would be similar.

The Operative, now essentially a fugitive, trying to figure out how, or even if, he fits into the 'verse, just wanders, doing what good he can to atone for his sins.

Now, if only he were a vampire...
