Maybe they scooped up some of Wash's stem cells, whizzed over to Kamino, and ordered a new Wash clone....will be ready for pick-up by Serenity 2.

I have no doubt that Joss has plans for Wash to be seen again, however whether he will be alive and well or if his screen time will be from a flashback is very debateable. I think a flashback is more likely since...well, he was impaled.

My second point is that Joss has a pattern of bringing characters back from the dead in a very creative and extremely unpredictable way. I doubt any one will ever guess how Wash comes back (assuming he does). But we can rule out one thing, aliens will not bring him back.

Another thing constant in Joss' work is he tends to kill characters quickly and it hardly lets you believe they are dead. Most movies slow things down and make it dramatic, but not our Joss, his works are true genious.
But I have faith we will one day see more Wash and I really hope to see more Book. He's one of my favorite characters but really wasn't in the movie very much. Maybe we'll see both in flashbacks at the very least.

Another way for Wash and Book to return...ala Dallas of the early 80's...the whole movie Serenity was just River's dream...it never actually happened.

Ok I love Wash, he was and is my favorite character from start to finish. But I can't see any way for him to return that doesn't make me go "pfff, yeah right." And I have been thinking on it awhile.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, slow down a bit. We actually need to get the series back up and running before we can say how Wash is returning, assuming he is returning ...
