I was born without an ounce of creativity in my body.

Place my body on a ship and burn it on the sea,
Let my spirit rise, Valkyries carry me.
Take me to Valhalla where my brothers wait for me.
Fires burn into the sky, my spirit will never die.

First starting using this name when I was working in a very un-hippieish IT related office job.

It started when I gave a coworker there a gag gift. He was an ultra-conservative ultra-capitalist guy and there was always this friendly rivalry between us, since I was his total opposite. It became kind of a running joke. Anyway, one Christmas I have him an "Instant Hippie Kit" as a gift. It was a parcel I'd put together with the silliest hippie stuff I could find, including a set of wind chimes with a sucker on them (so you could stick them to your PC monitor) a thumb ring with a CND logo, a hash leaf sticker and a bead bracelet from the Oxfam Fair Trade shop that I wound up keeping when he tried to throw it away. I also included a card that said a donation had been made in his name to the Anti-Globalisation league. I knew I'd hit the mark when he shredded it

Anyway, there was a brief moment when some of the guys at work said I should sell Instant Hippie kits (not the capitalist guy though. Strange, huh?), but I never got around to organizing it. Still, the hippie tag stuck and I started using the name Desktop Hippie online, since I was a hippie trapped behind a desktop. Now that I teach computers for a living I still use the name as I specialize in teaching older people who are nervous of technology. So I promote peace and harmony with computers. Man.

I use this name on just about every board I go to, which isn't many it has to be said. Funnily enough, it never seems to be taken... I even got a blog of the same name! Which I should update sometime this month actually... The only other name I've used is Linda_Delurked. That was a couple of years ago on a Buffy board. I lurked there for ages, but Delurked during season six to defend some of the more controversial stuff that happened in the show. Yes, my first name is Linda. Creative, huh?

I have basically no creativity when it comes to screenames...
Mine is the title of a Tori Amos song that is one of my personal favorites.

Kelai was a name I made up. Apparently it is also derivated from KAYLEE -- "pure" and also KELLY - "warrior". So I guess It means "Pure Warrior"

Kelai was my first RPG character too.

I try to pack lots of meaning into names, and DarkJester seemed to be appropriate because...

1) I love dark humor.

2) When I joined up here, I had just recently seen "Tripping The Rift", and I loved the line by Darph Bobo, "Never underestimate the power of a Dark Clown!"

3) I suffer from occasional clinical depression, and have been told that I'm funniest, and my sense of humor the most twisted, when I'm in a funk.

4) According to oral family history, the father of my ancestor who came to America (in 1787) was a jester or entertainer in the court of a Duke in (what is now) Switzerland.

MAL "You only gotta scare him."
JAYNE "Pain is scary..."

Wow Darkjester... that is one of the most wonderful stories I have ever heard...

It's funny that you started this thread Gomithrous, because I have had a lot of fun finding out about people's posting names over on the 76th forum site... there are not two stories alike!!

Mine is more to do with when I became a Browncoat... I had just finished several months of work on the annual production of 'The Passion Play' here in Melbourne, and as the Assistant Director I had done some research into a few of the traditions of the period - I also stumbled accross the Gospel of Mary Magdela.. I originally chose the name Magdalene, but the site crashed terribly shortly after and all trace of me disappeared... I resigned and had to use a different name so I chose Magdalena because I had started to make friends here and wanted to remain identifyable...

By the way if you see either Magdalene, Lady Magdalena or Magdalena on a Firefly or Buffy related site - it's almost certainly me! I am also Private Magda Martin on the 76th forum!! (Martin being my Mother's maiden name)

Oh... and for the record - I am still fascinated with the possibility that Mary Magdalene was robbed of her early influence in the Christian Church by the male dominated, Peter followers, who went on to form the incredibly powerful Roman Catholic Church...
