Sure he says that now. Just wait. When he finally makes evil warlord, he'll indulge himself in a congratulary evil laugh and before he knows it, he's putting off the lavish wedding, making everything a shiny red button (hey, there's a thought), and setting up elaborate death traps in which the hero struggles while listening to a breakdown of the evil plot.

You can't fight evil culture--it goes with the job.
